Thread border routers and mesh extenders for Google Home

Google Home will not finish adding a Thread device without a Thread border router, the bridge between the Thread mesh and your Wi-Fi and internet. Google builds that role into the 2026 Google Home Speaker, Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wifi Pro and Google TV Streamer (4K), and does not list Nest Mini or Nest Audio for it. Google calls plugged-in devices such as smart plugs mesh extenders, because they repeat signals across the home. A powered Thread plug such as Eve Energy can strengthen the path to a distant sensor or lock, but it cannot replace the border router. Battery sensors and locks sleep to save power and leave that relaying to always-on devices like these.
