Eve Energy Outdoor is most appealing when an outdoor socket already belongs on your renovation list. The gray, square enclosure mounts on the wall, with a protective flap over one Schuko socket. It gives patio lighting a permanent smart power point without a separate adapter hanging from an existing outlet.

At €79.95 before installation, this is a substantial purchase for a single socket. Eve requires an authorized electrician to install it. That expense is easier to justify while arranging other electrical work than as a separate project to automate a string of seasonal lights.

The 83 × 83 × 67 mm housing looks like utility equipment, which suits a garage or exterior wall. Its appeal is an orderly, fixed installation. Renters and people who regularly move their lights around would be better served by a removable product.

Useful history, particularly in an Apple home

Eve's iPhone/iPad app can show energy consumption, estimate running cost and store schedules on the outlet. Those schedules continue independently of the phone or internet connection. For outdoor lighting used every evening, that combination provides something more useful than remote on/off control alone.

SmartThings Energy also supports consumption monitoring. The broader Eve controls, including its device schedules and button lock, are documented for the Apple app; do not assume the indoor Eve Energy plug's Android feature set applies here. Google Home and Alexa can control the socket, but Eve does not list the same energy view for them.

The outlet also acts as a powered Thread router. It can relay nearby Thread traffic, but the house still needs a Matter controller and Thread border router with a viable connection to that exterior location. The benefit depends on placement, especially through exterior walls.

One socket, with a lower continuous limit

The IP44 enclosure and −25°C to 40°C operating range suit an outdoor installation. The electrical headline needs more care: 16 A/3680 W is the maximum peak rating, while continuous loads are limited to 10 A/2300 W. This is not a universal high-power garden supply. The connected equipment must also permit remote switching.

For an existing outdoor socket that only needs occasional smart control, Shelly Outdoor Plug S Gen3 is a more flexible European alternative. It plugs in, uses Wi-Fi and can move with the lights; it does not provide Eve's fixed wall finish or Thread routing.

Choose Eve when that permanent finish and the Apple-app energy features are worth the installation. For a temporary patio setup, the commitment is larger than the benefit.
