Amazon's list of Thread border routers is shorter than its list of Matter-capable Echos, and Alexa can add a Matter-over-Thread device only after a border router commissions it. The
new Echo Dot, Echo Dot Max, Echo Hub, Echo Show 8 (2025) and Echo Studio are all on it at Thread 1.3; an Echo Pop or older Dot is not, though both still control Matter devices over Wi-Fi. The plugs on this page play a supporting part. Bosch Smart Plug Compact M and Aqara Power Plug H2 pass Thread traffic toward sensors and locks at the edge of the mesh, yet still need a border router to join. Amazon's border routers also lack NAT64, Tado says, so a Tado X device commissioned only through Alexa misses Tado's firmware updates.
