Any Echo on Amazon's Matter list can add and run devices, and an Echo Pop or an older Dot handles Matter-over-Wi-Fi plugs and lights. Thread locks, sensors and bulbs need a Thread border router, which Amazon builds into the devices below, several other Echo Show models and other eero routers.
Alexa smart speaker, Matter controller and built-in Zigbee and Thread hub
A good first hub for an Alexa home that has no hub-equipped Echo or eero yet: the basic Dot now carries a Zigbee, Matter and Thread hub for about $100.
8.7-inch Alexa smart display, Matter controller and Thread border router
A good Alexa kitchen display when you want a bigger screen, better sound and a full smart-home hub in one box, ideally bought on sale.
Alexa smart speaker, Matter Controller and Thread Border Router
A sensible Alexa speaker for a small room where music matters.
Premium Alexa smart speaker, Matter Controller and Thread Border Router
Worth considering when an Alexa room needs a more ambitious music system or a matching Fire TV speaker setup.
Alexa Matter Controller and Thread Border Router
A useful purchase at about $180 for an Alexa household that wants shared touch controls on the wall.

Amazon's table of Matter device categories gives contact, motion, temperature and humidity sensors an Alexa capability but lists none for water leak detectors or light sensors, so treat a leak sensor's Alexa alert as unproven.
Amazon's Matter table lists only on/off and dimming for plugs. Judge a plug on its fit and switching, and expect any power meter to live in another app.
Matter gives Alexa lock and unlock control, while codes, fingerprints and guest access stay largely with the lock maker, so pick a lock whose own app you are happy to keep.
Amazon maps Matter button events to an Alexa interface built for starting routines, so a switch with spare buttons can do more than turn on one light. Support still varies by model.
How to choose smart speakers, soundbars, and portable speakers for TV rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and patios, with practical picks from Apple, Google, Amazon, Sonos, and JBL.
A plain-English guide to when a Matter home needs a Thread border router, which device types depend on one, and when you can safely skip it.
A practical comparison of Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, Homey, Home Assistant, and Aqara for Matter homes, including automation depth, hubs, Thread, and hybrid setups.
A buyer-friendly checklist for adding a Matter device without guessing: network path, hub requirements, setup codes, firmware, placement, and multi-admin sharing.
Amazon launched a new Echo Dot on October 28 with a built-in Zigbee, Matter and Thread hub, so the basic Dot can now set up Thread and Zigbee accessories for Alexa. On October 30 Amazon listed it as a Thread 1.3 border router, along with Echo Time, Echo Studio with Home Camera and a Thread 1.4 Echo Show 16.
Ring plans a US smart lock for early 2027 with a hand-powered backup. Connected control uses Amazon Sidewalk; Matter support has not been announced.
Ring's new Peephole Cam 2K is a renter-friendly Wi-Fi camera for Ring and Alexa homes, not a documented Matter camera for cross-platform video.
Amazon's Alexa+ smart-home toolkit is in preview with 14 brands, but the announcement does not name compatible models, regions, or launch dates.

Tree string light with color and warm white LEDs, 20 to 100 m (66 to 328 ft)
Worth buying for a Christmas tree that should look good in steady warm white as well as in color, thanks to dedicated white LEDs and one continuous string sized to the tree.
Trimmable roofline light kit with color and 2200 to 6500K white, 49 to 147 ft
The best middle choice for a roofline that needs trimming or warm evening white: the strings can be cut to fit and every puck has dedicated warm and cool white LEDs, for well under Govee's Pro price.
Battery roller shade with a built-in Matter-over-Thread motor
GE Smart Shades are a sensible buy for an ordinary US window that one of the six standard widths fits.
Fingerprint and keypad lever lock with Aliro wallet tap for single-bore doors
Latch 5 Pro is a good lever lock for a Samsung Galaxy household that already runs SmartThings, because its wallet tap works with Samsung Wallet today, alongside a fingerprint reader and keypad.
