Homey Pro and Homey Pro mini are Matter controllers with a built-in Thread border router. The Pro can add a Thread device over its own Bluetooth, but the mini pairs only through your phone, and an iPhone cannot use Homey's Thread network, so a Pro mini run from an iPhone needs a third-party border router such as a HomePod. Homey Self-Hosted Server always needs a separate border router for Thread.

Matter Hub and Thread Border Router
The better-value Homey for a modest collection of apps when Ethernet placement works.
Before you buy
Many devices here reach Homey through a brand app instead of Matter. Philips Hue lights need a Hue Bridge, and the SwitchBot, Govee and Tapo apps lean on each maker's cloud, with local control only where the app offers it.
The Homey App Store labels each app Official or Community. Where only a community app covers a device, such as tadoZones for Tado's Wireless Temperature Sensor X, Matterhome rates its Homey support as limited.
Homey's Matter Bridge app shares devices with Apple Home, Google Home and other Matter platforms, including Zigbee and Z-Wave devices that map to a Matter type. As of version 0.9.0, every connected platform gets the same device list, and some advanced features stay in Homey.
An official driver can still skip the feature you bought. Eve's Homey app gives every Eve Energy plug on and off without power readings, and Athom's IKEA app shows only battery level for BILRESA remotes, so both sit in limited sections.

A plain-English guide to when a Matter home needs a Thread border router, which device types depend on one, and when you can safely skip it.

A practical comparison of Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, Homey, Home Assistant, and Aqara for Matter homes, including automation depth, hubs, Thread, and hybrid setups.

When to choose a Matter bridge, when to buy native Matter devices, and why bridges can be the right answer for existing Hue, IKEA, Bosch, and similar smart home systems.

A buyer-friendly checklist for adding a Matter device without guessing: network path, hub requirements, setup codes, firmware, placement, and multi-admin sharing.

Homey Pro 13.5.1 adds support for compatible Matter chimes, soil-moisture sensors, and meter identity data, but exact model support remains undocumented.

Homey Matter Bridge 0.9.0 can pair another Matter platform without dropping existing connections, but every platform receives the same device list.

Homey's official ConnectLife app brings compatible laundry, dishwashing and cooling into Flows, with a vendor account and remote-start limits.

Homey Portal adds a shared touchscreen and rotary ring to a compatible Homey system, but it is not a standalone Matter controller and is only expected to ship before the end of 2026.

Tree string light with color and warm white LEDs, 20 to 100 m (66 to 328 ft)
Worth buying for a Christmas tree that should look good in steady warm white as well as in color, thanks to dedicated white LEDs and one continuous string sized to the tree.

Canless recessed color light for a 6-inch ceiling opening
Hue's 6-inch Slim Downlight is worth buying for a new canless ceiling where color scenes or its very wide white range will earn the price, and it is rated for a bathroom.

USB-powered multi-zone mmWave presence sensor
A good buy for a home without Thread that wants one sensor to split an open-plan room into separate Matter zones.

5 m multicolor indoor lightstrip kit
A good sale-price choice for a concealed desk or shelf run, especially if you already use Nanoleaf scenes.
