Matter devices that work with Home Assistant

Home Assistant suits a household that wants one system for many brands and has someone willing to maintain it.

Pick your Home Assistant hub

Green ships with Home Assistant OS, the only installation that officially supports the Matter Server app, and new devices are added from the Companion app on a phone. It has no radios of its own, so Thread devices need a border router: a Connect ZBT-2 switched from Zigbee to Thread, a manual step, or a Nest Hub (2nd gen) or HomePod mini, though Apple border routers currently block its Matter firmware updates.

What to know about Matter in Home Assistant

Native integrations first

Where a brand has a native local integration, compare it with Matter first. Behind a Hue Bridge, Matter passes only basic light controls, while Home Assistant's native Hue integration adds dynamic scenes and entertainment mode.

Lock codes

Home Assistant's Matter integration has actions that create lock users and PIN credentials, so a keypad code could come from an automation. Confirm your lock accepts codes this way before planning guest access around it.

Energy readings

Some plugs send energy readings over Matter, such as Eve Energy since Eve's April 2025 firmware. The SwitchBot Plug Mini (EU) sends none over Matter, but Home Assistant's SwitchBot Bluetooth integration reads its power and consumption.

Tado X

Home Assistant's native Tado integration does not support the Tado X range, so Tado X runs in Home Assistant through Matter or not at all.
