Home Assistant opened the 2026.9 beta on August 26, 2026, with a Matter network map inside its main interface. The Matter panel now has a Show map button, so an owner can inspect the routes behind a troublesome accessory without opening the separate Matter Server dashboard.
The map puts Matter-over-Thread and Matter-over-Wi-Fi devices in one view. It labels Thread border routers and Wi-Fi access points, distinguishes routers from battery-powered end devices, and draws the path back to Home Assistant. Link color identifies Thread or Wi-Fi, while line thickness and direction show the reported signal strength on each side of a connection. Recognizable host names and Wi-Fi network names replace hardware identifiers where Home Assistant can obtain them.
That makes the map most useful as a first diagnostic step. A Thread sensor that repeatedly drops offline can be checked for a weak route or an unexpected border router, while a Matter-over-Wi-Fi device can be traced through its access point. The graph reports the topology available to the Matter Server; it does not repair a weak mesh, merge separate Thread networks, or prove that the line that looks weakest caused an outage.
The feature also depends on current server support. Home Assistant's backend change requires Matter Server schema 13, and the interface shows an update prompt when the connected server is too old instead of presenting a broken graph. Owners using Home Assistant's Connect ZBT-2 as a Thread radio still need the normal OpenThread Border Router setup. The new page changes visibility, not the radio's role or the network requirements around it.
This is beta software. Home Assistant says 2026.9 features can change or miss the final release, and the latest stable Core version remains in the 2026.8 line as of August 30. Stable users should wait for the finished 2026.9 release rather than move a working home to beta only for the map. Beta testers should update both Core and Matter Server, open the Matter panel, and use the graph as evidence for the next network check rather than as a verdict by itself.
