A tidy upgrade for an existing Aqara home

Aqara Wall Outlet H2 EU puts switching and energy measurement inside a normal-looking Type F socket. That is its strongest reason to exist. A plug-in adapter is easier to install, but it protrudes from the wall and can make furniture placement awkward. This outlet is the cleaner choice for a kitchen, utility room or renovated living space where the smart control should stay in one place.

The current Aqara EU price is €39.99 before delivery and installation. That is reasonable for the finished outlet, but only when the rest of the project already makes sense. A compatible Aqara hub is required, and Aqara's manual reserves installation and removal for a professional. Buying the outlet, a hub and an electrician visit solely to automate one lamp would turn modest hardware into an expensive switch.

Matter arrives through the hub

WP-P01D is a Zigbee 3.0 device. It joins Aqara Home through a compatible Aqara hub, and that hub can share the outlet with Matter systems. It does not join a Thread or Wi-Fi Matter network directly. An existing Aqara setup makes this easy to accept; a hub-free Matter home loses much of the appeal.

Aqara lists Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant integration. The useful distinction is what remains in Aqara Home. Consumption history, power-based automations, configurable overload thresholds, charging protection, power-off memory and the LED setting are manufacturer-app features. Treat Matter as the shared control path, not a promise that each platform recreates Aqara's complete energy dashboard.

The permanent mains connection also lets the outlet repeat Aqara's Zigbee network. That can help other Aqara accessories nearby, but it is a benefit for an existing Zigbee home rather than a reason to add the required hub by itself.

Check the wall before buying the socket

The exact European model is a 250 V, 16 A Type F outlet measuring 86 × 86 × 47.7 mm. It includes its own plate and fits common 55 mm systems such as Schneider Merten System M and Atlas Design. That gives a planned retrofit a better chance of matching adjacent controls.

Compatibility with the front plate does not guarantee room for the device and wiring behind it. The wall box, circuit and intended load still need to suit the installation. The physical button provides control when a phone is inconvenient, but it does not remove the electrical work or make the outlet portable when the room changes.

Compare the whole installation cost

The Aqara Power Plug H2 EU was €32.99 in the latest check. It connects directly over Matter over Thread, needs no Aqara hub in that mode and moves with the appliance. Choose the wall outlet for a built-in appearance; choose the plug when a seven-euro hardware saving is less important than avoiding installation.

The Shelly 1PM Gen3 is another route when keeping the existing faceplate matters. At €14.90 in its latest check, it adds direct Matter-over-Wi-Fi switching and metering behind a suitable circuit. It is a relay rather than a complete socket, and it still needs neutral, enclosure space and electrical work, but it avoids an Aqara bridge.

Wall Outlet H2 EU is therefore a sensible component in a planned Aqara renovation, not a default purchase for one smart socket. The clean finish and Aqara energy automations justify it when the hub and installation are already accounted for. Otherwise, the removable H2 plug answers the same practical need with less commitment.
