Bosch Motion Detector II [+M]

Bosch Motion Detector II [+M] is a flexible Matter motion sensor for lighting and presence automations, with the option to stay inside Bosch Smart Home for alarm and service behavior. It is best when you are clear about the setup path, because direct Matter and Bosch Smart Home do not expose the same feature depth.

Motion for Matter or Bosch Smart Home

Motion Detector II [+M] sits in Bosch's direct Matter-capable product line. You can pair it straight into a Matter setup, or use it with Smart Home Controller II inside Bosch Smart Home.

That split is important. Direct Matter is the simpler path for lights and presence automations. Bosch Smart Home is the richer path if the sensor is part of Bosch's alarm system, motion-light service, or app-specific routines.

Setup path

For direct Matter setup, use a Matter controller with Thread border router support. Check range before final mounting, especially if the sensor is near an exterior wall, in a garage, or outside under cover.

For Bosch Smart Home setup, pair it through Smart Home Controller II. That keeps Bosch's alarm and service features available, and the controller can bridge supported functions into other Matter ecosystems.

Where it fits

Use it for hallway lighting, entry-area automations, utility rooms, sheltered outdoor motion triggers, or Bosch Smart Home alarm routines. Its IP55 rating gives it more placement flexibility than many indoor-only sensors, but placement still matters.

The practical question is which app should own the automation. If the automation is simple, direct Matter may be enough. If it is part of Bosch's security or lighting service, use Bosch Smart Home.

Should you buy it?

Buy Motion Detector II [+M] when you want Bosch motion hardware with a direct Matter option. Skip it if you expect every Bosch alarm and service feature to appear unchanged in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant.

Best for

  • Motion-triggered lighting in a Thread-enabled Matter home
  • Bosch Smart Home alarm and motion-light services
  • Buyers who want a Bosch sensor that can move between Bosch and Matter setups

Skip if

  • You do not have Thread coverage at the sensor location
  • You need Bosch alarm services entirely in a third-party Matter app
  • The placement is likely to create frequent false motion triggers
