Presence, not just motion
The Aqara Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 is meant for rooms where a regular motion sensor is too blunt. It combines PIR and 60GHz mmWave sensing so it can report presence, not just a quick burst of movement.
For direct Matter buyers, the important detail is protocol mode. Use Thread mode for direct Matter pairing. Zigbee mode is for Aqara Home and Aqara hub features.
What makes it different
The FP300 is battery-powered, which makes placement easier than many mmWave presence sensors. It also includes light, temperature, and humidity sensing, so one device can support several basic room automations.
The tradeoff is feature exposure. Aqara advertises richer radar tuning and reporting controls, but those should be treated as Aqara-path features unless your Matter ecosystem clearly exposes them.
Setup advice
Presence sensors are placement-sensitive. Test the FP300 on a shelf or temporary mount before sticking it in place. Aim it at the part of the room where people actually sit or work, and verify that it does not see through areas that would create false occupancy.
Buy it for direct Matter occupancy in an existing Thread home. Skip it if you need every mmWave tuning control in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant.
Best for
- Rooms where motion sensors turn lights off too quickly
- Presence automations in homes with healthy Thread coverage
- Buyers who want one sensor for occupancy plus basic environmental readings
Skip if
- You need detailed Aqara radar tuning inside every Matter app
- You do not have a Thread border router
- The room layout is too complex to test before committing
