The little stand is the useful part

Heiman's M1-M looks like a small white spotlight, and its mounting bracket is a practical reason to consider it. You can aim the sensor towards a doorway instead of accepting the direction of a flat wall. The cylindrical body is just 42 mm across and 43 mm tall before the bracket, with no power cable to hide.

A hallway, stair landing or utility-room entrance is a sensible job for it: movement starts a useful action. The separate light reading can also help a supporting platform avoid turning lamps on when daylight is sufficient. That is more useful than treating every arrival as a reason to switch on the lights.

At the checked €27.89 German offer, it sits well above the cheapest movement triggers. Its shape and positioning need to solve a real problem to earn that premium.

Understand what happens after the first person walks past

The manufacturer manual describes a one-minute period without movement before the sensor returns to its clear state. During continuing movement, it does not generate a fresh alert for every new person who passes. This matters if your routine expects a new motion event to restart a short timer.

A better lighting rule should consider the sensor's active state and the subsequent clear state, rather than assume every movement produces another event. We have not verified an adjustable cooldown for M1-M. If precise tuning is the reason for buying, Eve Motion offers documented sensitivity and duration adjustments through the Eve app in an Apple home.

M1-M is a PIR sensor, not proof that a room is empty once someone stops moving. It can be useful for entering a room and still frustrating at a reading chair. For that second job, consider a sensor designed for small movements from a seated person, such as Aqara FP300.

A small battery with an uncertain replacement interval

The replaceable CR2 keeps the installation free of wiring. It is less common in a household drawer than AAA batteries, so having a spare is sensible. The manual rates the view at approximately 110 degrees and up to 7 meters under stated conditions; furniture, heat sources and placement still determine the useful area. This model is for indoor installation.

The battery promises are untidy. Heiman's older M1-M specifications say one year on Matter, while the checked German retailer says about two. We would not choose it on the longer claim: neither figure is a battery-life measurement from Matterhome.

Heiman's current M1 family page also advertises a newer M1-PM with radar. Those stationary-presence and three-year claims do not describe the M1-M reviewed here. The similar names make the exact suffix worth checking before ordering.

Home Assistant support is a reason to shortlist it

M1-M is specifically listed in the Works with Home Assistant programme. That is useful evidence of a supported local integration and manufacturer participation, with testing performed by Home Assistant. It is not a Matterhome reliability test or a guarantee about a particular room's wireless coverage.

No Heiman hub is needed, but a compatible Matter controller and Thread border router are. For Google Home or Alexa, treat motion as the purchase baseline; the same detailed illuminance experience across every app is not established here.

The discount helps, but the basic job is available for less

Smartdomo showed M1-M in stock at €27.89 including VAT on September 10, 2026, against €38.90 regular pricing. One is €32.88 with the listed €4.99 German delivery charge. Two cost €55.78 and pass the €50 domestic free-shipping threshold, if there are actually two useful places for them.

IKEA MYGGSPRAY was €7.99 on IKEA's German site before its two AAA batteries and delivery. It is a stronger budget starting point for an ordinary movement-triggered light. M1-M is worth considering when aiming the smaller body or its documented Home Assistant support is the deciding benefit.

Keep a working motion sensor if it already covers the route and controls the light properly. If the problem is losing track of someone sitting still, replacing it with another basic PIR sensor is unlikely to solve that problem.
