The retail offer is the reason to choose it
TP25 covers the same appealing job as P400M: two outdoor devices controlled separately over Wi-Fi. Patio lights can follow one schedule and a seasonal decoration another, with physical buttons for each outlet. That is more useful than a splitter that switches both together.
The checked Best Buy offer was $29.99 for one TP25. P400M was listed at $25.99 in Tapo's own store, but sold out there. That makes TP25 worth considering when the retail offer gets you the plug you need. There is no established feature advantage here that justifies paying extra when a cheaper P400M offer is actually available.
Two switches do not make an outdoor dimmer
TP25 cannot soften a string of lights by dimming it. For decorations that simply need to come on and off, separate outlet control is enough. For a patio where the problem is harsh lighting, choose a suitable outdoor dimming product instead.
The 15 A/1800 W general or resistive maximum is shared across the unit, not available independently on each socket. Its two outlets are useful for separate control, rather than doubling the available power. The plug uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; the advertised long range is a manufacturer open-area claim, not a reason to assume it will reach through your exterior walls.
Alexa buyers also need a narrower expectation. The manufacturer's feature guidance does not clearly establish independent Matter control of both outlets in Alexa. If separate voice commands are essential, resolve that point before choosing this model.
Cheaper when Thread is already there
IKEA TOFSMYGGA was listed at $19.99 for its US two-outlet version. It is the more attractive price if suitable Thread hardware and coverage already reach the patio. TP25's Wi-Fi connection earns its place when it avoids adding that equipment.
Outdoor use requires a GFCI-protected outlet and sockets facing down at least 12 inches above ground. TP-Link's outdoor temperature claims conflict with its manual's indoor-only guidance, so get confirmation for a freezing location. For a suitable protected lighting position, TP25 is a useful retail option. Compare the available offer before paying a premium for a different model name.
