Tapo brings Matter energy data to three US wired devices

Tapo highlighted three Matter 1.3 energy-monitoring updates on September 8, 2026: late-August firmware releases for the P210M outlet and the S505D and TS25 dimmer switches. The change gives owners a new route to live power and accumulated-energy readings outside the Tapo app, but only on the named US V1.6 hardware and only when the Matter controller exposes those measurements.

TP-Link says it has verified the new Matter energy path with SmartThings and Home Assistant. That is not the same as universal Matter support: the release notes warn that platform implementation varies, and they do not verify the feature in Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa. Home Assistant is the clearer first test because its own release notes have documented Matter 1.3 power and energy sensors since version 2024.10.

Treat SmartThings as a check, not a promise

TP-Link's current firmware notes and its older SmartThings instructions do not line up cleanly. The new notes name SmartThings as verified. The older support article instead tells P210M owners to link their Tapo account for energy data and says dimmer devices are not supported by SmartThings Energy. That article predates these firmware builds, but TP-Link has not published a replacement flow that resolves the mismatch for all three models.

Update first, then look for power and energy measurements on the device page in the Matter controller you already use. Do not remove and re-add a working device solely because the older SmartThings article recommends a reset for its account-linking method. If readings do not appear after the update, check the controller's version and its Matter 1.3 support before rebuilding the installation.

Update in Tapo before checking Matter

TP-Link's instructions put firmware updates in the Tapo app, either under the device's settings or under **Me > Firmware Update**. Confirm both the hardware revision and firmware number before expecting this change; the release notes do not establish the same support for other regions or revisions.

The P210M update also adds current and voltage readings in Tapo and fixes an issue that could produce abnormally high consumption values. Those improvements make the update relevant even when the household's Matter controller cannot yet show energy data. For all three devices, compare the new reading with the Tapo app before using it in bills, alerts or load-based automations.
