Outdoor Matter still needs a nearby mesh

TOFSMYGGA brings IKEA's Matter-over-Thread line outdoors. It is built for outdoor lights and devices, and IKEA says it has two outlets that can be controlled separately. That makes it more flexible than a simple single-outlet smart plug.

The setup risk is range. Thread is not Wi-Fi, and an outdoor outlet may sit behind exterior walls, masonry, metal boxes, or distance that makes the mesh unreliable. Test the final location before trusting it for seasonal lighting or a pump.

Setup path

Use a Matter controller with Thread border router support, or use DIRIGERA with IKEA Home smart. If you plan to pair it with a BILRESA remote or MYGGSPRAY motion sensor, decide whether those pairings should live in IKEA's app, your main ecosystem, or both.

IKEA says the plug is IP65-rated only when the lid is closed. That makes cable routing and physical placement part of the compatibility decision, not just a weather rating footnote.

What to verify

Check whether your chosen app exposes both outlets clearly. Also check energy data if power tracking is part of the reason you want this plug. Matter compatibility gets the plug into the ecosystem, but it does not force every app to present the same controls.

Home Assistant buyers should also verify whether their regional unit behaves as a Thread router or an end device before using it as part of an outdoor mesh plan.

Should you buy it?

Buy TOFSMYGGA for outdoor lights when you already have Thread coverage near the outlet. Skip it if you are trying to fix weak outdoor Thread coverage, or if the outlet location makes the closed-lid rating impractical.
