IKEA published TIMMERFLOTTE firmware 1.2.2 to its Matter test network on September 22, 2026. The release notes say the update moves the temperature and humidity sensor to Matter 1.5 and Thread 1.4, improves device stability and adds a serial-number attribute. This is test firmware, not a general update: IKEA's production feed still offers version 1.0.21.
That distinction matters more than the two protocol version numbers. IKEA does not say which stability problem 1.2.2 addresses, whether it changes battery life or measurement behavior, or when the update will reach the production channel. Thread 1.4 support on the sensor also does not prove that a household's controllers and border routers can merge networks or share credentials. Those jobs depend on the rest of the Thread setup.
Most owners should wait for the production release
The TIMMERFLOTTE still works as a standalone display without any hub. Its connected path uses Matter over Thread, so normal smart-home use requires a Matter controller and Thread border router. Owners on the production firmware channel do not need to reset, remove or recommission a working sensor because a test build exists.
Home Assistant's Matter Server is one documented route for advanced testing. Its configuration includes an enable_test_net_dcl option for test-network certificates, firmware updates and other device information. Enabling that option widens the server beyond normal production updates. It is appropriate only when you are prepared to troubleshoot a pre-release build and can tolerate the sensor becoming less reliable.
If you deliberately test 1.2.2, start with one noncritical sensor and note its current placement, controller and border router before updating. Check temperature and humidity reporting, automations, battery status and reconnection after a restart. Do not treat IKEA's broad “stability” note as proof that a specific dropout or pairing problem is fixed until the behavior is reproduced on the same setup.
For everyone else, the useful signal is narrower: IKEA is actively testing a newer Matter and Thread stack for the exact E2314 sensor. The buying advice stays the same until 1.2.2 or a later build reaches IKEA's production feed.
