Tapo P316M

Tapo P316M is useful when one Matter device needs to manage several nearby outlets, such as a desk or media cabinet. It is overkill for a single lamp, and buyers should test how their platform displays each outlet before committing.

Matter control for several outlets

Tapo P316M is a power strip, not just a larger plug. The point is to manage several nearby loads from one device: a desk lamp, monitor accessories, chargers, speakers, or holiday decorations.

Matter support makes the strip easier to share into Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant, but multi-outlet devices can still look different from one ecosystem to another.

Setup path

Set up the strip on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and give each outlet a clear name before building scenes. Then pair it through Matter and check how the outlets appear in the platform you actually use.

Keep the Tapo app for firmware, strip-level settings, and any controls outside basic outlet switching.

What to check

The main thing to test is presentation. If the app shows each outlet cleanly, the strip can be very practical. If it buries outlets or makes voice names awkward, several individual plugs may be easier to live with.

Best for

  • Desks with chargers, lamps, and accessories
  • Media consoles that need several controllable outlets
  • Seasonal decorations with multiple nearby plugs

Skip if

  • One compact plug would solve the job
  • You need every outlet and USB detail exposed identically in all Matter apps
  • The location has weak 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
