Tapo P304M

Tapo P304M is the UK Tapo strip to consider when one Matter device should manage several nearby loads and track energy in the Tapo app. It is not a portable whole-home energy system, and buyers should check how their Matter platform displays each outlet before hiding it behind furniture.

Tapo P304M smart Wi-Fi power strip with four UK outlets

A UK power strip with Matter, not a whole-home meter

Tapo P304M is a UK smart power strip with four individually controllable outlets, Matter-over-Wi-Fi support, and energy monitoring in the Tapo app. It is most useful when several nearby devices should be switched or measured from one strip: a desk, TV console, charging area, aquarium setup, or small appliance corner.

The Matter path is direct over Wi-Fi. There is no Thread border router, Tapo hub, or bridge requirement, but you still need a Matter-compatible platform if you want to use it outside the Tapo app.

Set it up before hiding it

Give each outlet a useful name in Tapo and in the Matter platform before the strip disappears behind furniture. Multi-outlet devices can be practical, but only when voice names, room placement, and automation builders make the outlets easy to distinguish.

TP-Link lists 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, Bluetooth for setup, a 1.5 m cord, and a 250V, 13A, 3250W maximum load. That rating is part of the buying decision. Do not treat the Matter badge as permission to run any heater, motor, or high-draw appliance without checking the load.

Energy stays Tapo-first

The reason to pick P304M over a basic strip is energy detail. TP-Link lists energy tracking, electricity-rate estimation, threshold-based shutoff, and anti-overcharging features, but those are Tapo-app features first.

Matter should cover the common outlet controls. It may not make the same energy history, billing view, or safety settings appear in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant. If power data is the reason to buy it, test one strip in the ecosystem you actually use before relying on it for automations.

Should you buy it?

Buy Tapo P304M for a UK desk or media setup where one smart strip is cleaner than four separate plugs. Skip it if the devices are spread around the room, if the outlet format is wrong, or if you need energy data to behave identically across every Matter app.

Best for

  • UK desks, media consoles, and charging corners
  • Tapo users who want power readings in the brand app
  • Matter homes that need several controllable outlets in one place

Skip if

  • You need a North American or continental European outlet format
  • One compact smart plug would solve the job
  • Energy history must be fully portable across every Matter app
