The $14.99 GRILLPLATS kit turns an ordinary lamp into something you can switch from bed. It includes a pre-paired BILRESA dual-button remote, so there is no hub purchase between you and that simple benefit. Add the remote's two AAA batteries and leave the lamp's own switch on.

That is a more convincing entry into smart lighting than buying several boxes for one routine. The $7.99 standalone plug is the better choice when your existing Matter and Thread system will provide the controls. Both offers are inexpensive; the right one depends on whether the missing piece is a plug or a physical remote.

Power control has its limits

GRILLPLATS switches the supply. It cannot dim a lamp, and an appliance with an electronic start button may stay off when power returns. A plug-in light with a mechanical switch is therefore a more straightforward match than an appliance that needs a separate button press after every interruption.

Power tracking is a useful extra for seeing what a connected appliance consumes. The destination for that information still matters: a Matter outlet appearing in an app does not guarantee an equally useful energy-history view. If energy and cost analysis in an Apple-connected home is the main reason to buy, Eve Energy is worth comparing for the tools in Eve's own app.

Keep the cheap plug a cheap purchase

The Thread connection is attractive when the home already has the required infrastructure. Buying a separate controller and border router for one $7.99 plug changes the economics considerably. For a single lamp, the direct remote kit may already do everything needed.

This US model belongs indoors and dry. Its 1800 W/15 A resistive limit is separate from the much lower 300 W motor limit, so it is not a universal switch for anything that fits the socket. Within that scope, GRILLPLATS offers useful control at a price that makes the simpler jobs easy to justify.
