The app needs to earn the extra money

The European Eve Energy costs €39.95 for one plug in Eve's German store. The checked German Tapo P110M listing is €12.90 before shipping and also includes an energy meter. Eve is therefore a deliberate premium purchase, not the obvious default for adding a schedule to a lamp.

There are worthwhile extras. Eve's app combines consumption history, estimated running cost and schedules stored on the plug itself. Once saved, those schedules run independently of your phone or internet connection. That is more useful than a long list of voice-assistant logos if you want a dependable daily routine without adding an Eve account or cloud service.

The app works with Apple Home on iPhone/iPad and with Google Home on Android. Current firmware also shares standard Matter energy readings with Home Assistant and SmartThings. You can buy it for a useful meter today; identical charts and settings in every home app are a different expectation, and one it does not meet.

The 11 A limit is easy to overlook

This Schuko model is rated for 11 A/2500 W, with a separate 240 W limit for incandescent tungsten lamps. It is not a 16 A adapter simply because it fits the same wall socket. That matters if you were planning to use it with a demanding appliance: choose a plug whose rating explicitly covers the load, rather than treating the shape as permission.

For an ordinary suitable lamp or desk setup, the more noticeable compromise is physical size. The square face is 56 mm across, with a recessed socket and a small green control button. The specified overall depth is 79 mm; it remains an extra adapter to accommodate around furniture. The 0–35°C range and IP20 rating also keep it inside the house.

The small controls are thoughtful. Eve lets you turn the status light down or off, and lock the button against accidental presses. Those are useful bedside details, although they do not by themselves justify paying roughly three times the Tapo price.

Worth buying for a particular kind of home

A powered Eve plug can relay traffic for other Thread accessories, which gives it a second purpose near battery sensors. You still need a Matter controller and Thread border router. Buying that equipment just for one expensive plug makes the value less attractive.

Choose Eve if its account-free app, stored schedules and Thread role are features you will use. For affordable switching and consumption checks in a Schuko home, we would start with P110M and spend the difference elsewhere.
