HomePod mini is the sensible first Apple home hub when you also want Siri and a small speaker. It performs the same basic Matter and Thread jobs as the much more expensive full-size HomePod. Keep an existing working Thread hub unless another room needs the speaker, and choose something else if your music routine depends on devices outside Apple’s system.
