A useful dimmer with an awkward price
KS225's strongest idea is straightforward: keep the light fixture you like and give it brightness control from both the wall and your smart home. It is particularly appealing for a fixture with several ordinary dimmable bulbs, where replacing every bulb with a smart one would add cost and change how the room is controlled.
The checked B&H offer is $24.99 for one dimmer. Tapo S505D is $18.99 singly or $24.99 for two. Both offer Matter over Wi-Fi and physical brightness buttons. We have not established a performance advantage that justifies paying the same amount for half as many Kasa dimmers, so the Tapo pair is the stronger starting point for two suitable circuits.
Buttons beat reaching for a phone
KS225 has a large on/off control with separate brighten and dim buttons above it, plus indicators showing the level. That gives a visitor a visible way to adjust the room without a voice command. If you prefer a rotary knob or a long slider, this button layout may be less appealing; it is worth looking at the control arrangement before replacing several familiar dimmers.
Adjustable fades are a more useful extra than another app icon: the light can come on and go off gradually. Dimming calibration can also limit the working range to suit the bulbs. These features offer control over the result, but they do not establish that every LED fixture will dim deeply or quietly.
Spend on the right lighting result
KS225 requires a neutral wire and a single-pole circuit. Its leading-edge TRIAC dimming is rated for up to 150 W of compatible LED lighting or 300 W of incandescent/halogen lighting. Smart bulbs are unsuitable; they already handle dimming internally. Confirm the fixture match and installation with a qualified electrician before treating this as a cheap upgrade.
If the circuit has two wall controls, S515D KIT serves that different job. If you already have working KS225 dimmers, keeping them is sensible. Kasa devices can also be managed in Tapo, so app consolidation alone is no reason to replace them. For a new purchase, the physical design may win you over, but today's price does not.
