Tado Bridge X

Bridge X is the Tado X infrastructure buy, not the heating controller. It makes sense when Tado X devices need Thread coverage and the home does not already have a compatible Thread border router in the right place.

Buy it for infrastructure

Bridge X is not the part that turns the radiator or boiler on. It is the Thread border router Tado sells for Tado X homes. If you already have compatible Thread coverage, it may be unnecessary. If you do not, it can be the missing piece that lets the heating devices join reliably.

That makes it closer to a hub purchase than a thermostat purchase. It belongs in the plan before the first battery-powered radiator valve is stuck in a difficult corner of the house.

When you need one

Tado says Tado X products can use Bridge X or another compatible Thread border router. The wired thermostat starter kit and radiator starter kit include Bridge X because those devices otherwise need Thread infrastructure.

The wireless thermostat kit and Heat Pump Optimizer X are different because their included hardware can perform the border-router role. In those setups, Bridge X is more likely to be a coverage extender than a required first box.

What it does not replace

Bridge X does not replace a Matter controller in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant. It also does not make older Tado V3+ devices part of a Tado X system.

Think of it as the network doorway for Tado X Thread devices. The ecosystem app still needs to support the device type and the Tado app still handles Tado-specific setup.

Should you buy it?

Buy Bridge X when Tado X devices need Thread coverage and no other compatible border router is in the right spot. Skip it if the kit already includes the border-router hardware or if your existing Thread network is already solid.

Best for

  • First Tado X radiator or wired thermostat installs without existing Thread infrastructure
  • Larger homes that need stronger Tado X Thread coverage
  • Buyers who want Tado's own Thread router instead of relying on another brand's hub

Skip if

  • Your Tado X kit already includes a receiver or optimizer that acts as the Thread border router
  • You already have compatible Thread coverage where the Tado devices will live
  • You are trying to upgrade Tado V3+ hardware
