Tado Wireless Smart Thermostat X Starter Kit

Wireless Smart Thermostat X Starter Kit is the Tado X route for boilers that need a receiver instead of a simple wired wall thermostat swap. Its Matter over Thread path is direct, and the included receiver handles the Thread border router role.

The kit is the product

Wireless Smart Thermostat X is not just a loose room sensor. The starter kit combines Wireless Temperature Sensor X with Wireless Receiver X, so the boiler can be controlled even when there is no useful thermostat wire at the room location.

That receiver is the important difference from the wired thermostat. It is wired at the heating system, talks to the Tado X setup, and Tado says it also functions as a Thread border router.

Setup path

Start with the compatibility checker. Tado says the kit is for many relay and OpenTherm gas boilers and heat pumps, but "many" is not the same as "yours." If the receiver wiring is uncertain, treat that as the real work.

Once the receiver is installed, the wireless temperature sensor becomes the room control point. Matter over Thread can then bring the thermostat into Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant, while Tado remains the management app.

Why it may beat the wired model

Choose this kit when a wired thermostat replacement would put the control in the wrong place, or when the boiler needs a receiver because there is no existing wall thermostat path.

It is also cleaner for a first Tado X install if you do not already have a Thread border router. The receiver covers that role, so Bridge X is not a separate first purchase.

Should you buy it?

Buy the wireless kit when the heating system needs a receiver and Tado confirms the match. Skip it if the wired thermostat can do the same job with less hardware.

Best for

  • Boilers or heat pumps that need a wireless thermostat receiver
  • Homes replacing an existing wireless thermostat setup
  • Tado X buyers who want the Thread border router built into the heating kit

Skip if

  • A wired thermostat replacement is simpler for your heating system
  • Your boiler or heat pump fails the compatibility check
  • You expect hot water or OpenTherm details to be fully portable through Matter
