Tado Wired Smart Thermostat X

Wired Smart Thermostat X is the cleanest Tado X choice when a wired wall thermostat controls the boiler or an underfloor heating zone. Matter over Thread is useful, but only after the wiring and heating compatibility check is boringly clear.

Tado Wired Smart Thermostat X

Start with the wire on the wall

Wired Smart Thermostat X is the Tado X thermostat for a home that already has a wired thermostat position or a wired underfloor heating zone. It is not a magic boiler adapter. The heating system still has to match Tado's relay or OpenTherm support.

That makes the compatibility checker the first step. If the boiler, heat pump, or underfloor heating control path is unclear, solve that before caring about Matter.

The direct Matter path

Tado says the X line runs on Matter and Thread. The single Wired Smart Thermostat X needs Bridge X or another compatible Thread border router. The starter kit includes Bridge X, which is why the kit is the easier first purchase for a home with no Thread infrastructure.

Matter should cover the common thermostat controls in the major ecosystems. Tado remains the place for installation guidance, schedules, heating behavior, updates, and services that do not travel through Matter.

Where it fits

This is the Tado page for a straightforward wall thermostat replacement. It is also relevant when a water-based underfloor heating zone needs smarter control and the wiring is supported.

It is not the right fit for a boiler with no thermostat wiring nearby. In that case, the Wireless Smart Thermostat X Starter Kit and its receiver are the more natural comparison.

Should you buy it?

Buy it when the heating compatibility is confirmed and the home already has a working Matter-over-Thread path. Skip it when the wiring is a guess, or when you are trying to mix it into Tado V3+ hardware.

Best for

  • Homes replacing a wired room thermostat
  • Relay or OpenTherm boiler setups that pass Tado's compatibility check
  • Underfloor heating zones that need a Matter-capable Tado X controller

Skip if

  • Your heating system is not confirmed compatible
  • You need a wireless boiler receiver instead
  • You are extending an older Tado V3+ installation
