Aqara Panel Hub S1 Plus Desktop (MP-K05D)

A dashboard earns its place on a nightstand or kitchen counter only when everyone can use it without learning the architecture behind it. Aqara Panel Hub S1 Plus Desktop gives an Aqara household that shared screen, but the architecture still matters before buying: it is a Zigbee hub and Matter bridge, not the Matter controller or Thread border router that a mixed home may be missing.

Matterhome has not tested model MP-K05D. The recommendation is based on Aqara's current product, support, compliance, and launch pages plus checked European availability.

It is strongest as the visible part of an Aqara system

The 6.9-inch, 1440 x 720 touchscreen can hold up to 60 device or scene cards on a dashboard. It wakes when someone approaches, runs from a 5V 2A USB-C supply, and connects through dual-band Wi-Fi. That removes the mains wiring required by the wall-mounted S1 Plus and makes placement much easier.

The panel can control Aqara lights, curtains, climate products, locks, and scenes. Aqara also supports camera tiles, but only Aqara cameras can stream at launch and only one feed appears at a time. This is a useful household controller, not a universal surveillance display.

The Matter bridge runs outward

Add supported Aqara Zigbee devices to the built-in hub, then expose their common controls to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant through Matter. The receiving platform still decides which bridged device types and features it understands, while Aqara Home remains responsible for firmware, dashboard design, and brand-specific settings.

The reverse direction needs another product. Aqara says a separate Aqara Matter controller such as Hub M3 must add third-party Matter accessories to Aqara Home before they can be configured on the S1 Plus screen. The panel's listed radios are Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and Bluetooth, so it also does not create the Thread network those accessories may need.

That distinction is the whole purchase decision. Existing Hub M3 owners can add a convenient screen without duplicating its controller role. A buyer starting from zero needs to budget for both devices if the dashboard must control Matter-over-Thread products from other brands.

Siri and cameras keep their own requirements

Built-in Siri sounds like one less speaker to buy, but Aqara requires a HomePod or HomePod mini configured as the Apple home hub. The panel then becomes a voice surface for Apple Home accessories and scenes. It does not independently provide the Apple home infrastructure.

Camera viewing follows Aqara's path rather than a generic Matter camera path. A G410 doorbell or another supported Aqara camera can open on the screen, but buyers should not expect a third-party camera to appear because both products carry a Matter logo.

Buy the screen after the infrastructure

Choose the S1 Plus Desktop when Aqara Zigbee devices already fill several rooms and a shared, always-present dashboard will actually replace phone use. The tabletop design is especially sensible beside a bed, in a home office, or on a kitchen counter where wall wiring would be disproportionate.

Skip it when the real gap is Matter commissioning, Thread coverage, or brand-neutral automation. Aqara Hub M3 handles the first two jobs at a lower price. SwitchBot Hub 3 is a closer comparison when infrared control and physical buttons matter more than an Aqara camera dashboard, while Tapo H110 is a far cheaper bridge for one room.

Map the setup before checkout: which Aqara Zigbee devices the panel will bridge outward, which separate controller will bring Matter devices inward, and which camera or scene deserves the screen. If those answers are vague, the S1 Plus is an expensive display for infrastructure the home still does not have.
