ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint Matter Edition (BOLT-F-MATTER)

ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint Matter Edition is a practical $199.99 deadbolt for buyers who want fingerprint entry and direct Matter-over-Thread control. Choose it only if the door fits, Thread reaches the entry, and keeping Xthings Home for fingerprint management is acceptable.

Fingerprint access is the reason to consider this lock. Picking the correct radio is the first job. ULTRALOQ sells several Bolt Fingerprint versions on one page, and the similar housings hide different smart-home paths. This guide covers only the Matter Edition, store SKU BOLT-F-MATTER, in black and satin nickel.

The exact variant is currently listed at $199.99. It uses Matter over Thread for Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and SmartThings, with Bluetooth for setup and ULTRALOQ app work. Matterhome has not tested the hardware or any of those integrations.

Select Matter before selecting the finish

On the Bolt Fingerprint product page, choose Matter over Thread + Bluetooth. The other main choice is Apple Home + WiFi + Bluetooth. It is not the same radio configuration, even though both versions can appear in Apple Home.

CSA's Bolt Fingerprint Smart Deadbolt certificate covers firmware 2.34, hardware 1.2, Matter 1.2, and Thread. ULTRALOQ announced the lock for November 2024 shipping, and the exact Matter store variant is available now. Those current setup and checkout paths are more useful than treating the old launch promise as proof on its own.

Commissioning needs a Matter controller and Thread border router in the chosen ecosystem. ULTRALOQ's Matter setup guide says to turn on phone Bluetooth, keep the phone on the same home network as the controller or border router, and scan the code inside the battery cover. Reinstalling the batteries opens a 15-minute setup window.

The original code is for the first ecosystem unless the lock is reset. To add another platform, create a sharing code from the platform that already owns the lock. Reusing the printed code is not the multi-admin flow.

Fingerprint management stays with Xthings

Matter supplies the shared lock path, but it does not move every credential tool into every ecosystem. ULTRALOQ's current fingerprint support note says most smart-home platforms cannot enroll fingerprints for the lock. Use Xthings Home, formerly U home, for that job.

This split matters for the buying decision. Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and SmartThings can be the daily Matter control surface, while fingerprint enrollment remains a vendor-app task. ULTRALOQ does not list Home Assistant for this exact variant, and it does not publish one product-specific matrix showing credentials, history, alerts, and automation behavior in every named platform.

Do not buy the optional Wi-Fi Bridge as a workaround for Thread. ULTRALOQ says this model's Bluetooth radio sleeps and the bridge cannot hold a long-running connection. The company therefore does not advertise the bridge path for the Matter variant. Place the Thread border router where it can reliably reach the entry instead.

Measure the door, then test it open

This is a full deadbolt replacement for North American door preparation. The official installation guide lists a 1 1/2-inch or 2 1/8-inch cross bore, a 1-inch edge bore, and a 2 3/8-inch or 2 3/4-inch backset. Standard door thickness is 1 3/8 to 1 3/4 inches. ULTRALOQ sells a separate kit for doors up to 2 1/4 inches.

The guide also calls for at least 1 inch of depth behind the strike. Check that measurement and confirm the bolt moves freely before installing the motor. ULTRALOQ tells buyers to test the lock with the door open to avoid a lockout. Follow that advice for the keypad, fingerprint reader, physical key, inside thumb turn, app, and Matter control before closing the door.

Eight AA alkaline batteries power the lock. The exterior assembly is weather resistant, but the battery-side interior assembly is not. Keep the physical key available while battery warnings, Thread coverage, auto-lock behavior, and recovery steps prove themselves in the actual doorway.

The $199.99 decision

Buy the Matter Edition when a fingerprint reader, keypad, physical key, and direct Thread connection are the right combination for one compatible door. The tradeoff is clear: Xthings Home remains part of credential management, and reliable Thread infrastructure is mandatory for the cross-platform path.

eufy Smart Lock E30 is the closest lower-priced fingerprint and Matter-over-Thread alternative. Kwikset Halo Select has a more explicit Wi-Fi-versus-Matter setup choice. Schlage Sense Pro costs much more but is the stronger Apple-first comparison when Home Key and hands-free unlock are the deciding features.

Skip the ULTRALOQ if Apple Home Key is non-negotiable, if fingerprint enrollment must live entirely in the main ecosystem app, or if the door needs a surface retrofit instead of a new deadbolt. The correct SKU, exact door fit, and Thread signal at the entry should all be settled before checkout.

Best for

  • North American entry doors where a full deadbolt replacement fits
  • Homes with a compatible Matter controller and reliable Thread coverage near the door
  • Buyers who want fingerprint and keypad entry without a required brand bridge

Skip if

  • Apple Home Key or another phone-wallet credential is required
  • Fingerprints must be managed entirely inside Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, or SmartThings
  • The door does not match the supported bore, backset, thickness, and edge-hole dimensions
  • A retrofit lock that preserves the existing deadbolt is a better fit
