Aqara Smart Lock U400

Aqara Smart Lock U400 is the premium direct Matter-over-Thread Aqara lock, especially if you have the Apple hardware needed for its UWB auto-unlock story. Buy it for a compatible door and clear access needs, not just because it has the longest feature list.

Aqara Smart Lock U400

Aqara's premium direct Matter lock

The Aqara Smart Lock U400 is the high-end lock in this Aqara direct Matter set. It uses Matter over Thread for ecosystem integration and adds UWB auto-unlock features for supported Apple hardware.

That does not make it the automatic choice for every door. It is a different form factor and a more expensive buy than the U200 retrofit lock or U300 lever lock.

Why the requirements matter

The U400 should be evaluated in layers. First, does it fit the door? Second, do you have a Thread-enabled Matter controller near the entry? Third, if UWB auto-unlock is the reason you are interested, do your Apple devices and home hub meet Aqara's requirements?

If any of those answers is no, the feature list gets less persuasive.

What Matter covers

Matter should give you direct lock control in major ecosystems, but lock administration remains one of the places where platform differences matter. PINs, users, logs, notifications, and advanced access rules may not behave identically everywhere.

Set up the lock with Aqara's tools, pair it to your Matter ecosystem, and test normal entry, backup entry, and automations before trusting it fully.

Best for

  • Buyers who want Aqara's higher-end direct Matter lock
  • Apple homes that meet the UWB auto-unlock requirements
  • Doors where a full smart lock replacement makes sense

Skip if

  • You only need a simpler retrofit lock
  • Your Apple hardware does not support the UWB features you want
  • You need identical lock administration across every Matter ecosystem
