Good value for a room of four

At about $170 for four lights, their hardwire boxes and an S310D Mate Switch, L730-6 KIT has a persuasive price. You get a complete lighting group rather than four fixtures that still need a separate smart wall control. For a kitchen or living area being fitted with recessed lights, that is useful spending.

The 1100-lumen rating per light is higher than the 850 lumens of the 4-inch kit, for only $10 more across the pack. Choose by the ceiling design, though. The six-inch model leaves a larger white disc overhead and needs a different opening; it is not a drop-in brightness upgrade for a four-inch hole. Both are slim, canless fixtures with separate hardwire boxes, not bulbs for existing sockets.

White light does the work

The broad center changes between warm and cool white, while the outer ring adds independently controlled color. That could suit a living room that needs ordinary illumination most of the time and a colored accent in the evening. The center cannot turn blue or red. Buying from the phrase “16 million colors” alone would set the wrong expectation for a gaming room or strongly colored lighting scene.

For that job, compare the Hue 6-inch Slim Downlight, which produces color from the main light and is listed for wet locations. At about $77 per fixture before any wall control, four of them cost nearly twice as much as this kit. Measure its specified cutout too; sharing a nominal six-inch size does not guarantee identical fit.

The wall button is better than the platform promise

The included Mate Switch keeps normal on/off use from cutting power to the smart lights. Its factory-paired Bluetooth group remains controllable locally during a Wi-Fi outage, without a Tapo hub. That makes the wall control one of the kit's strongest features. It needs a neutral wire and replaces the existing control; an ordinary incandescent dimmer cannot stay in that role. A wall plate and appropriate electrical installation cost extra.

The lights themselves connect to Matter over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, but the wall control cannot act as a universal Matter remote. TP-Link also documents uneven responses when other apps control a group, Apple Home voice temperature commands switching the lights off, and a warm-white limit in third-party apps. Home Assistant is specifically excluded from the planned temperature fix. We would favor the Tapo control group and would pass if dependable Apple voice control were essential to the purchase.

The kit is available now, but we could not verify a standalone US L730-6 offer. Do not budget on buying one inexpensive extra light later. If the room needs only smarter dimming of good existing white fixtures, keeping them and fitting a suitable dimmer is the more economical direction.
