The cylinder is the reason to choose Ultra

Smart Lock Ultra looks like the obvious premium choice in Nuki's range, but the practical question is whether your existing cylinder should stay. The Euro-profile package replaces it with Nuki's matching modular cylinder and three new keys. That can make sense if the old cylinder lacks the required emergency function or needs replacement anyway.

If you already have a suitable cylinder, the fifth-generation Pro is a stronger starting point. It keeps that hardware and costs €80 less. Replacing a good cylinder just to buy the most expensive motor creates extra work without adding a new way to enter.

This review covers the Euro-profile kit. Swiss round, Nordic and US deadbolt products solve different physical fitting problems; they are not interchangeable alternatives for the same door.

Small, attractive and only a little smaller than Pro

Ultra's stainless-steel body is 57 mm across and 58 mm deep. The black and white base rings are both supplied. Losing the battery box hanging below older Nuki locks makes the interior door look less cluttered.

Compared with Pro, however, Ultra saves just 12 mm in depth. Both use Nuki's brushless motor with Insane, Standard and Gentle modes. Ultra is not buying you an extra level of smart-home control or a fundamentally faster motor than Pro.

Gentle mode is useful in principle for a door near a bedroom, while a faster action may suit a busy entrance. We have not tested motor noise, mechanical endurance or forced-entry resistance. The compact design is clear; the real-world performance remains something we cannot personally certify.

“Universal” still needs measuring

The included Euro-profile cylinder is modular, with supplied sizing parts covering 30–55 mm outside and 30–67.5 mm inside. Nuki's current fit guide separately asks for door-plate measurements and flags outside lengths above 55 mm as needing extensions. Those are different measurements, so use the fit check before assuming the box covers a thick door.

Changing the cylinder also changes the physical key. That is inconvenient if one existing key currently opens several locks. Keep the three supplied keys and security card in mind when comparing the complete household cost, including any extra keys or fitting help.

The new cylinder has an emergency function, allowing physical-key entry with the motor fitted. Nuki lists SKG*** certification, but its installation guidance includes conditions for doors with visible glazing. Treat that as a component certification with installation requirements, not a guarantee that every finished door becomes equally secure.

The motor belongs indoors. It also cannot lift a multipoint door handle or make a stiff door close correctly. Those mechanical jobs remain part of the purchase decision.

A clean shape with a battery-service compromise

Ultra can charge on the door using its supplied two-metre magnetic cable, while still operating the lock. Alternatively, remove the motor for charging. You need a suitable USB power supply; Nuki specifies at least 10 W.

The battery is built in, and the current instructions direct owners to Nuki support for battery issues. You cannot maintain it by simply swapping AAs or an external Power Pack. That is the less attractive side of the compact shape.

Nuki also defaults to an 80% charge limit. Its published multi-month endurance estimates assume a full 100% charge and vary with connection method, door resistance and use. A claim about months between charges should not obscure either that distinction or the future servicing question.

Budget for the way you want to enter

On September 10, 2026, this cylinder-inclusive kit was €349 in the euro store or £309 in the UK store. The €449 Home Set Ultra adds Keypad 2 for codes and fingerprints; the €479 NFC set adds Keypad 2 NFC instead. The base kit has neither exterior reader.

Supported wallet taps need that NFC accessory and a qualifying phone and ecosystem hub. Nuki's app-based Auto Unlock is another option, not an NFC reader built into the interior motor.

Nuki remote access is included through built-in Wi-Fi, so ordinary remote Nuki control does not require buying a Thread hub. A Matter smart-home setup does require a suitable controller and Thread border router. Include delivery, any power supply, extra cylinder parts and fitting in the final comparison. Choose Ultra when its replacement cylinder solves an existing problem and the smaller form is worth paying for. Choose Pro to preserve a good cylinder, or Go when price and replaceable batteries matter more. A working Nuki that already gives the household convenient entry remains a sensible product to keep.
