The premium Nuki path is a door-hardware choice first
Nuki Smart Lock Ultra is the small, fast member of Nuki's current direct-Matter lineup, but the Ultra story starts with the cylinder. The Euro profile version includes Nuki's Universal Cylinder, so it is a better fit for buyers who are willing to change the inside hardware rather than just strap a motor over the existing setup.
That tradeoff can be worth it. The lock gets Matter over Thread for ecosystem control, Nuki's own app for detailed setup, and compatibility with Keypad 2 and Keypad 2 NFC accessories. It is still not a universal retrofit answer.
Matter runs over Thread
The Ultra does not need a Nuki bridge for its Matter path. It does need a Matter controller that can also act as, or reach, a Thread border router. If your entryway is far from the nearest Thread border router, solve that before judging the lock.
Matter should cover normal lock state and control. User management, logs, remote access, accessory pairing, and lock-specific settings are still places where the Nuki app may matter more than the ecosystem app.
Skip it if the cylinder swap is the problem
Smart Lock Ultra makes the most sense when replacing the cylinder is acceptable and the door is compatible. If you need a less involved European retrofit, Nuki Smart Lock Pro or Smart Lock Go may be easier to justify. If the door is a North American single-cylinder deadbolt, this is the wrong Nuki article entirely.

- Buyers who want Nuki's smallest and fastest Matter-over-Thread lock
- Homes that already have a reliable Thread border router near the door

- You expect every Nuki permission, log, and accessory setting inside your Matter app
