Nuki Smart Lock (4th generation)

Nuki Smart Lock (4th generation) matters because it is the baseline Nuki generation with direct Matter over Thread. It is mainly a discounted or already-owned option now that Smart Lock Go and the 5th-generation Pro exist.

Nuki Smart Lock 4th generation

A legacy Nuki Matter option

The 4th-generation Nuki Smart Lock is the point where the regular Nuki lock joined the Matter-over-Thread story. That makes it relevant for existing owners and for buyers looking at discounted stock, but it should not be treated as the obvious new purchase.

Current Nuki buyers should compare it against Smart Lock Go. If the price gap is small, the newer model is easier to recommend.

Verify the generation

Do not assume every older Nuki lock has the same Matter path. Nuki's Matter support starts with the 4th-generation smart locks, so listings, used units, and old stock need to identify the generation clearly.

After that, the normal Nuki setup rules apply: confirm door fit, update through the Nuki app, make sure Thread reaches the entry, and then add the lock to your Matter ecosystem.

Where it still makes sense

This model makes sense when you already own it or find it at a price that makes the legacy tradeoff acceptable. It is less compelling as a full-price purchase next to Go, Pro, or Ultra.

Best for

  • Existing owners moving a 4th-generation Nuki lock into Matter
  • Discount buyers who confirm the exact generation before buying
  • European retrofit doors with reliable Thread coverage nearby

Skip if

  • You are buying new and Smart Lock Go or Pro is close in price
  • The listing does not clearly identify the 4th generation
  • You need the smaller Ultra hardware
