Eve Shutter Switch

The best reason to spend €100 is the daily routine

Walking around the house to close every shutter is a task worth automating. Eve Shutter Switch keeps familiar up/down controls at each window while letting a scene move several shutters together. It replaces the wall control for an existing motor, so there is no blind battery to recharge and no new fabric to choose.

The checked German price is €99.95 per switch including VAT. Six windows would mean nearly €600 for the controls alone, before an electrician's work. That is a significant purchase if the only benefit is closing them all from the sofa. Start with the room where timing, access or sunlight is a recurring nuisance.

Apple Home users have a better reason to consider Eve. Adaptive Shading uses the window's orientation and the sun's position to plan movement through the day. This is more useful for a room with predictable direct sun than a simple fixed closing time. It is still a programmed response to the sun's path, not evidence that the switch measures glare or knows how warm you feel.

A neat wall switch, with limited design freedom

The two broad arrow buttons are easy to recognize, and the supplied pure-white matt frame has a conventional appearance. The complete unit measures 85 × 85 × 41 mm. Compatible 55 mm single or multi-switch frames can be reused, which helps it fit a coordinated installation.

The actual switch plates are a different story: you must use Eve's, and alternative plates are not offered. If the rest of the room has a distinctive colour or finish, that white pair may look like an exception. A hidden WAGO Home Blind Control is worth comparing when keeping suitable existing wall controls matters more. It also uses Matter over Thread, but needs space behind the switch and a compatible motor within its 3 A limit.

Eve is for compatible, permanently wired 230 V roller-shutter motors with neutral wiring and professional installation. Plan for one motor per switch; running two motors requires the additional arrangement specified by the motor manufacturer and installer. Its two direction buttons do not make it two independent shutter controllers. A battery roller-blind motor serves a different job.

The strongest features still belong to Apple Home

Eve's stored schedules and Adaptive Shading are configured in its iPhone/iPad app through Apple Home. Once configured, schedules and the stored daily shading parameters can operate without a phone, hub or internet connection. There is no Eve account or subscription.

Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant can control the shutter through Matter and use their own automations. They do not receive the same Eve shading interface. Manual travel setup is available at the switch, so basic use outside Apple's platform is possible; a Matter controller and Thread border router are still needed.

Choose Eve when its physical design and Apple shading tools suit the room. Owners of a working HomeKit Eve Shutter Switch should check the available free Matter upgrade before replacing hardware. If the existing controls already follow a satisfactory routine, adding an app alone is a weak reason to change them.
