Eve MotionBlinds Upgrade Kit for Roller Blinds

Eve MotionBlinds Upgrade Kit is worth considering when you already like your roller blinds and want scheduled movement without a visible add-on motor. It is a poor investment in worn fabric or a badly fitting blind. At roughly €150–€200 per motor in Germany, the fit, charging access and non-replaceable battery deserve as much attention as Matter support.

What we like

  • Keeps an existing roller blind’s fabric and appearance
  • Motor hides inside the tube, with a pull cord for local control
  • USB-C charging and adjustable motor speed

What could be better

  • €150–€200 per motor makes poor blinds expensive to keep
  • Tube diameter, minimum width and load all restrict fit
  • Integrated battery is non-replaceable, and charging access matters

Keep the blind only if it is worth keeping

Eve's upgrade kit replaces the chain mechanism inside an existing roller blind with a rechargeable motor. Most of the hardware disappears into the tube, leaving the fabric you chose and a short pull control. It is a tidier-looking approach than attaching a separate motor beside the window.

That is appealing when the blind already fits, rolls straight and suits the room. It is harder to justify when the fabric is faded, the edges leak too much light or the mechanism is troublesome. Motorizing those problems does not fix them. A complete Eve Blinds Collection shade is the relevant alternative when the window covering itself needs replacing.

The checked German offers are €149.94 for the small-tube motor and €199.95 for the large one, including VAT. Eve's US page lists the large kit at $219.95 and marks the small option out of stock. These are motor-kit prices, without new fabric. They make more sense as an upgrade to a good custom blind than to a cheap shade you would otherwise replace.

Two sizes, neither universal

Measure the tube's outside diameter without the fabric. The blind also needs enough width for the motor:

MotorTube diameterMinimum blind width
Small25–30 mm570 mm
Large38–51 mm680 mm

The small motor is rated at 0.5 Nm and the large at 1.1 Nm. Choosing a size is a fit and load decision, not simply a way to buy the cheaper option. Eve specifically excludes IKEA and Hunter Douglas tubes from the large kit; some IKEA blinds may fit the small motor, but the brand name alone does not establish that.

Brackets, covers and adapters are included, so this is a mechanical retrofit rather than a mains-wiring job. It still requires taking down the blind and matching the hardware. The motor's end positions can be set locally, which avoids making an iPhone essential for basic commissioning.

The cord is useful; the battery is a compromise

The pull cord gives someone in the room a way to command movement without an app. It operates the motor rather than mechanically winding the blind, so it is not a way around an empty battery. Keep the cord safely out of young children's reach.

Charging uses USB-C. That sounds easy until the port is high above a stairwell or boxed in by trim. Plan how a cable will reach it. The battery is non-replaceable, making long-term service a less attractive prospect than swapping ordinary cells.

Motor speed is adjustable, with three settings on the small motor and five on the large. Slower movement may be a worthwhile trade for a bedroom, but we have not measured noise or wake-up disturbance.

A Matter controller and Thread border router provide the smart-home connection. Apple Home users get Eve's stored schedules and sun-based Adaptive Shading through its iPhone/iPad app; other platforms use their own automations. Buy the kit for a blind worth preserving and a routine worth automating, after checking both the physical fit and the charging route.

Eve Blinds Collection is appealing when the window needs a new custom shade and you want the motor built in from the start. The neutral fabrics and hardware choices can look more considered than a retrofit. It is an expensive commitment, though: our specified US example costs $687.27, and the motor’s non-replaceable battery is a drawback in a product you may want to keep for years.
