A small premium buys the interesting part
SwitchBot RGBICWW Strip Light is the stronger of these two SwitchBot strips if you are buying for color effects. It can show different colors along the same five-metre run, rather than changing the entire strip to one color. That makes gradients and segmented scenes possible behind a desk or along a shelf.
It also has separate warm and cool white LEDs, adjustable from 2700K to 6500K. So does the cheaper LED Strip Light 3. The reason to step up is the simultaneous multicolor display, not access to white light. Both have a claimed maximum output of 1,200 lumens across the whole five metres; these are manufacturer figures, not measurements from our own room.
The price gap is smaller than the name suggests
The US five-metre kit was available at $49.99 on September 10, 2026. The store advertised $32.49 with JZJZ35, compared with $31.49 using the cheaper strip's own code. At that $1 gap, choose RGBICWW if there is any real prospect of using gradients. The base-price difference is still only $5.
Eligible standard US orders below $99 add $9.99 shipping, making one discounted RGBICWW kit $42.48 before tax. EU and UK plug versions are sold separately; these figures describe the US offer. The included power adapter is rated at 24 W, versus 18 W for Strip Light 3, so do not assume the older kit's adapter is interchangeable.
There is one practical reason to buy LED Strip Light 3 instead: its manual includes a handheld remote. The RGBICWW package lists a wired controller, power supply and six screw clips, but no separate handheld remote. A bedside button you can pick up may be more valuable than a gradient you rarely use.
Plan one continuous indoor run
This is a 12 mm-wide adhesive strip, not a finished diffuser or a collection of independently powered shelf lights. It works best as concealed accent lighting where the furniture hides the individual LEDs. If it must remain visible, include the cost and dimensions of a suitable channel or diffuser in the project.
The manual permits shortening at the designated cut marks and says the removed portion will not work. Do not buy one coil expecting to reuse every offcut elsewhere. A run around awkward corners, across gaps or over textured wallpaper needs more thought than a straight line under a desk; the supplied screw clips help with mounting, but do not turn it into a different strip format.
The manual also restricts it to indoor use. Its splash-resistant surface does not protect the circuitry underneath as an outdoor installation would require. For a garden, exposed balcony or wet area, choose lighting explicitly intended for that location.
Use Matter for routine light, SwitchBot for the show
Power, brightness, RGB color and white temperature work through Matter over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. You need a compatible controller in the receiving ecosystem, but no SwitchBot hub or Thread border router. The custom segmented scenes remain in SwitchBot's app; Apple Home or another Matter app does not become its full effects editor.
That division suits a room where ordinary warm light comes on automatically and colorful effects are an occasional extra. If you want the effect without attaching five metres of lighting to furniture, the RGBICWW Floor Lamp is easier to relocate.
For a new strip purchase, the small current premium is worthwhile for multicolor scenes. For an installed strip that already gives you the right warm white light, leave it in place. These extra letters do not establish a white-light quality upgrade.
