SwitchBot announced its Permanent Outdoor Lights on October 20, 2026: a 30 m (about 100 ft) roofline kit with 72 lights in six 5 m sections. Each light combines color LEDs with separate warm and cool white LEDs, and SwitchBot says the kit joins Matter controllers over Wi-Fi without a SwitchBot hub. SwitchBot's stores list it at $239.99 in the US, CAD 299.99 in Canada, €199.99 in the EU and £199.99 in the UK.
The release says the lights are "already available", but when Matterhome checked on October 22 that depended on where you buy. SwitchBot's US and UK stores were taking preorders that "are expected to ship in early November". Amazon US showed the kit in stock, sold by SwitchBot, with delivery from October 26. The EU and Canadian stores showed no preorder notice. All four SwitchBot stores also advertised launch discount codes (US$50, CA$60, and 20% in the EU and UK), and Amazon US showed a $50 coupon.
Matter covers routines, and SwitchBot's app covers the show
Matter runs over the home's Wi-Fi, so no Thread border router or SwitchBot hub is needed. You still need a Matter controller, such as a HomePod mini, an Echo or Nest speaker with Matter, a SmartThings hub or Home Assistant. SwitchBot names Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant and SmartThings as supported platforms.
SwitchBot is vague about what those platforms will control. Its release says Apple Home can turn the lights on and off, "adjust supported lighting settings" and include them in scenes, and a store image shows the lights in Apple Home with a brightness slider, warm and cool white swatches and a color picker. SwitchBot's RGBICWW Strip Light, which pairs color with two whites over direct Matter, exposes power, brightness, color and white temperature, so that is a reasonable expectation here, though SwitchBot has not documented it for this kit. Moving effects, music sync from the built-in microphone and custom patterns across the color sections all belong to the SwitchBot app, along with SwitchBot's own schedules and timers. SwitchBot's Matter compatibility list, last edited in August, does not include the new lights yet. Use Matter for evening routines, and check white temperature and color in your own controller after pairing, especially outside Apple Home.
Adjustable white is the reason to compare it with Govee
The nearest kit Matterhome covers is Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2, another 100 ft Matter-over-Wi-Fi roofline set. Its everyday white is fixed at 4000K, and Govee charges much more for its Pro kit with 2700K to 6500K white. SwitchBot offers that 2700K to 6500K range at a price close to Lights 2. That matters if the lights will spend most nights as a warm porch or path light and only occasionally show holiday colors.
Govee still has the more flexible layout. SwitchBot's release describes a single 30 m kit whose included extension cables spread the six sections across an installation of up to 36 m. It does not mention adding light sections, while Govee's Lights 2 can grow to 150 ft with matching parts. Govee's Lights 2 cannot be cut, and SwitchBot does not say its lights can be either. Measure the roofline before choosing.
Treat the brightness claims as peaks. SwitchBot quotes up to 40 lumens per light and 2,600 lumens for the whole run, based on its own lab testing and varying by lighting mode. Its UK energy information sheet lists 920 lumens of useful output at 10 W. That suits accent and path lighting, but a dark driveway may still need a floodlight.
Outdoor ratings and local control
The light strings are rated IP67, and the controller and power adapter are rated IP65, for use from -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F). Govee describes its Lights 2 adapter as suitable for a dry location, so SwitchBot's IP65 adapter should be easier to place. Mounting uses 3M adhesive on smooth wood or metal, with screws for brick, concrete, railings and rough wood. SwitchBot says the included wired controller switches the lights and sets ten brightness levels even when Wi-Fi is down, so the kit should still work as a light if the network or a Matter controller drops out.
US buyers who want the lights up before November should order from Amazon. UK buyers face early November shipping, while the EU and Canadian stores showed no preorder wait on October 22. Before buying, check that Wi-Fi reaches the spot where the controller will sit. The open question is which lighting controls SwitchBot exposes over Matter, and whether the lights appear on its Matter compatibility list.
