Path lights are bought as a set, which makes the first mistake expensive. The 2026 Lucca pedestal is 400 mm tall and 142 mm square, with a replaceable 1,100-lumen color A60 bulb inside an IP44 aluminium fixture. It is the lower Lucca option for paths, patio edges, and planting borders, not a smaller version of the wall light.
Choose the 40 cm version deliberately
Philips Hue also sells a 770 mm Lucca post for gates, driveways, and lawns. The lower pedestal keeps the light closer to the path and is less visually dominant in a border. Both use the same current Hue bulb and Bridge path, so height and placement should decide between them.
Check EAN 8721103118691 when buying. The older pedestal, EAN 8718696166055, looks similar but includes an 806-lumen warm-white bulb rather than the 2026 White and Color Ambiance light.
Plan power and radio together
This is a 220 to 240 V mains fixture. Work out the cable route, secure base, drainage, spacing, and required electrical work before buying several. IP44 handles splashes, but Philips Hue does not describe the pedestal as fully weatherproof. A waterlogged or overly exposed position is the wrong place for it.
The light communicates with Hue Bridge or Bridge Pro over Zigbee. Test one unit at its final position before extending the line, especially when the Bridge sits behind masonry, coated glass, or several interior walls.
Matter is the sharing layer
For the documented path, add the pedestal to Hue, then share the updated Bridge with a Matter controller in the chosen ecosystem. A Thread border router is not required for that bridge route. The Bridge remains the dependency and the Hue app remains the place for firmware, effects, and the fuller scene system.
Launch coverage identifies the included 1,100-lumen bulb as Matter-over-Thread compatible, and Hue documents direct setup for Matter-enabled bulbs with a Matter logo and code. The exact Lucca page does not list Thread or confirm that its fixture pack supplies that code, so check the package rather than assuming the direct path from the Matter-compatible label.
Home Assistant can receive basic controls through the Matter bridge, but its own Philips Hue integration is the richer local route. The same general tradeoff applies elsewhere: Matter is useful for common control and routines, not for reproducing the whole Hue app.
Install one before committing to a path
At EUR134.99 or GBP124.99 per pedestal, mounting and radio mistakes become costly quickly. Buy one when the 40 cm height, IP44 position, and Hue Bridge all make sense. Move up to the 77 cm post for gates and driveways, or choose a low-voltage system when permanent mains work is the real obstacle.
Best for
- Garden paths, patio edges, and planting borders that need low-level light
- Hue homes that want matching outdoor fixtures and cross-platform basic control
- European and UK buyers choosing the current color Lucca by exact EAN
Skip if
- You need a solar or low-voltage light without permanent mains cabling
- You want direct Matter pairing without a Hue Bridge
- The mounting point is exposed beyond what an IP44 fixture should handle
