Nuki's North American lock is a different product
The North American Nuki Smart Lock is not the Euro profile Nuki lock with a different plug in the box. It is a deadbolt retrofit designed to sit on the inside of compatible single-cylinder deadbolt doors.
That makes it a cleaner comparison to Kwikset, Schlage, and Aqara deadbolt options than to Nuki's European cylinder models. The outside of the door can stay familiar, but the existing deadbolt has to move smoothly.
Wi-Fi for Nuki, Thread for Matter
Nuki describes the deadbolt model as having built-in Wi-Fi for the Nuki app path and Matter integration for smart-home control. For Matter, plan on a compatible hub and Thread support.
That split is important. Nuki can remain the place for remote access, activity logs, permissions, charging details, and accessory setup. Matter is the route into Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, or another Matter controller.
Who should skip it
Skip it if your door is not a compatible single-cylinder deadbolt or if you want a full exterior keypad deadbolt. The Nuki approach is strongest when the existing outside hardware should stay and the inside thumb turn can be motorized without fighting the door.

- U.S. and Canadian buyers with compatible single-cylinder deadbolts
- Homes that want an inside-only retrofit instead of a full exterior lock replacement
- Matter users who can also keep Nuki's app for lock management

- Your door uses a multipoint lock, mortise lock, or incompatible deadbolt
- You want a full keypad deadbolt replacement
- You do not have a Matter hub with Thread support for the Matter path
