Start with the actuator, not the app
Eve Thermostat is a European wall controller for water-based underfloor heating. It is built for compatible 230 V electrothermal actuators, not for forced-air HVAC, radiator valves, or every boiler and heat-pump installation.
Before buying, identify the actuator voltage, electrical load, and existing control method. Eve's silent Triac output supports up to 65 mA or 15 W. The potential-free relay contacts support up to 5 A for resistive loads or 2 A for motor loads. Those limits decide whether the thermostat belongs on the wall.
The Matter path is direct
The thermostat uses Matter over Thread and does not require an Eve hub. It still needs a compatible Matter controller and Thread border router from Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant.
Because it is a mains-powered Full Thread Device, it can relay traffic for nearby Thread devices after it joins the network. That is useful infrastructure, but it does not compensate for weak coverage between the thermostat and the rest of the Thread mesh.
Local schedules depend on the phone platform
Eve stores schedules on the thermostat, so they continue without a phone or internet connection. The path used to create them is narrower than basic Matter control. Eve currently supports schedule creation in its app on iPhone or iPad through Apple Home, and on Android through Google Home.
Alexa and SmartThings can control the thermostat through Matter, but Eve says its app does not currently create schedules through those platforms. Their routines are the practical fallback. Home Assistant is listed as supported for Matter control, but buyers should verify the exact controls exposed by their maintained Matter setup.
Should you buy it?
Buy Eve Thermostat when a compatible 230 V underfloor-heating zone is already confirmed and a direct Matter-over-Thread controller is the goal. Skip it when the heating circuit is unknown or when one device must manage a boiler, heat pump, radiator, or low-voltage HVAC system.
