A lever lock, not a deadbolt
The Aqara Smart Lock U300 is Aqara's direct Matter lever lock. That makes it a different product from the U200 retrofit lock and U400 deadbolt-style lock, even though all three belong in the same broad smart lock conversation.
The U300 uses Matter over Thread for direct ecosystem control, so it needs a Matter controller and Thread border router.
Where it fits
Lever locks are useful on side doors, garages, offices, storage rooms, and other doors where a deadbolt is not the right hardware. Before buying, check the door prep, backset, handing, and whether the existing latch setup matches the product.
The feature set is broad: Home Key, fingerprint, keypad, app control, and Matter integration. The hardware fit is still the first gate.
What to verify
Matter should cover basic lock control, but access codes, logs, and user management can vary by ecosystem. Test those features before promising a household that everything will live in one app.
Keep manual access and backup entry paths ready while you tune the setup.
Best for
- Doors that need a lever smart lock rather than a deadbolt
- Apple Home Key users who want Matter over Thread
- Garages, side entries, offices, and utility doors with compatible prep
Skip if
- Your door needs a deadbolt or retrofit lock instead
- You do not have Thread coverage near the door
- You need every access-management feature in every ecosystem
