Tado Smart Radiator Thermostat X

Smart Radiator Thermostat X is the Tado radiator valve to buy when you want the newer direct Matter over Thread path instead of the older V3+ system. It is strongest in homes that already have Thread coverage and compatible radiator valves.

Tado Smart Radiator Thermostat X

The Tado X radiator path

Smart Radiator Thermostat X is the direct Matter version of Tado's radiator valve. It belongs on a radiator, replaces the manual thermostatic head, and lets the room call for heat through the Tado X setup rather than only following a whole-home thermostat.

The main upgrade is the network path. Tado says the X line runs on Matter and Thread, so the valve can live in a Matter-over-Thread home with Bridge X or another compatible Thread border router.

Hardware to check first

Start with the radiator valve, not the app logo. If the valve body or adapter fit is wrong, Matter will not save the installation. This is also a European and UK heating product, so North American HVAC buyers should look elsewhere.

Thread coverage matters too. A radiator valve is usually tucked low, near metal and water. If the closest Thread router is across the house, add infrastructure before installing several valves.

What stays in Tado

Matter should make basic thermostat control available in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant. Tado's app still matters for setup, updates, room behavior, schedules, and Tado services such as AI Assist.

That split is normal for climate products. Use Matter for ecosystem control and automations, but do not assume every Tado feature becomes a portable Matter feature.

Should you buy it?

Buy it when you are building a Tado X radiator setup and already have a Thread plan. Skip it if you own Tado V3+ hardware and want a simple add-on, or if your radiator valve compatibility is uncertain.

Best for

  • European radiator homes moving to Tado X
  • Rooms that need individual radiator schedules
  • Matter homes with a Thread border router already in place

Skip if

  • Your radiators do not use compatible valves
  • You want to extend an existing Tado V3+ setup
  • You do not have a Thread border router and do not want to add Bridge X
