Useful when you want readings, not a remote switch
Shelly EM Mini Gen4 has a narrower job than its similar-looking relay siblings: measuring the consumption of a connected AC circuit. There is no switching relay inside. It cannot turn an appliance off, and adding it to a smart home does not create an on/off control for that load.
That is a sensible design when the existing controls already do what you need and the missing information is how much electricity the circuit uses. The single meter was in stock at €19.90 in Shelly's EU shop on September 9, 2026, including VAT with shipping extra. Electrical installation is additional, so the small hardware price is only part of the project cost.
Small enough to be interesting, with a clear ceiling
The body measures 29 × 34 × 16 mm. It is an inline meter: the monitored current passes through the device, rather than through a separate clamp. Its limit is 16 A, and it needs mains AC power and a neutral. A qualified electrician must install it, with room for the wiring as well as the module.
The two O terminals are joined internally. They do not provide two separately measured circuits or double the current capacity. You get one combined measurement channel. If two connected loads are running, the meter cannot tell you how much each one contributes without another way to distinguish them.
The lack of a relay also means it cannot cut power in response to its own readings. Those readings can inform a wider automation, but switching the load would require another suitable device. Choose it for observation, rather than expecting protective shutoff or appliance control.
History gives the readings a purpose
The meter stores at least 10 days of data at one-minute resolution, with CSV and JSON export. That makes it useful for examining when a circuit draws power and comparing its activity over several days, without depending entirely on a live dashboard.
Local browser access does not require Shelly Cloud. Matter over Wi-Fi is included, with Zigbee available as an alternative mode. The detailed history and export are native meter features; their presence does not promise an equivalent energy dashboard in every Matter platform.
The €2 comparison matters more than the generation number
At €21.90, the full-size 1PM Gen4 combines metering with a 16 A AC switched output. It is larger, at 37 × 42 × 16 mm, but costs only €2 more. Where it fits and remote switching is wanted, it is the stronger value choice.
The equally priced 1PM Mini Gen4 matches this meter's smaller dimensions, but its switched output is limited to 8 A. Do not treat it as a 16 A substitute merely because the housings look similar.
For higher-capacity clamp measurement or two channels on the same phase, consider the €66.90 EM Gen4. For one suitable circuit where monitoring is the entire brief, EM Mini Gen4 earns its place through its small size and focused function.
