A circuit monitor with room to grow

Shelly EM Gen4 is worth considering when an individual plug meter cannot answer your question. It measures current through external clamps, with two channels for circuits on the same phase. That can give you separate consumption records for two parts of an installation without passing their load current through the meter's small enclosure.

The EU shop listed it in stock at €66.90 on September 9, 2026, including VAT and one 50 A clamp. Shipping and electrical installation are extra. The second measurement channel is useful, but its clamp is not included in that price. Compatible 80 A and 120 A clamps are also available; the supplied 50 A clamp does not become a 120 A sensor through a setting change.

This is a good fit when you already know which circuits you want to compare. It is a less compelling purchase if the goal is merely to see what one plug-in appliance consumes, particularly once installation is included.

The local record is its strongest feature

EM Gen4 stores at least 30 days of measurements at one-minute resolution on the device. CSV and JSON export give those readings a use beyond glancing at a live wattage number: you can examine a circuit's daily pattern or compare periods of use in your own analysis.

That is the reason to value the meter. It reports consumption; it does not identify which individual appliance on a shared circuit used the energy or produce savings by itself. Separate channels help isolate two circuits, but neither becomes an appliance-by-appliance breakdown.

The local browser interface works without Shelly Cloud. Matter over Wi-Fi is included, and Zigbee is an alternative mode. For the buying decision, keep the detailed local record separate from what a chosen Matter app displays. A Matter connection alone does not establish that the same history and export tools appear there.

The relay controls a contactor, not the measured load

There is a dry-contact output rated up to 2 A at 240 V AC. Its useful role is commanding a separate contactor in a suitable installation. The 50 A, 80 A and 120 A figures describe measurement options, not the built-in relay's switching capacity.

That distinction can change the project cost. Monitoring alone uses the meter and suitable clamps; controlling a large circuit also needs the appropriate switching hardware. The module measures 37 × 42 × 16 mm, but the clamps, wiring and any contactor need their own space. It requires mains AC power and a neutral, with installation by a qualified electrician.

Buy the capacity you actually need

For a single circuit up to 16 A where an inline meter is suitable, the €19.90 EM Mini Gen4 is much cheaper and smaller. It has no relay and retains a shorter local record, but may answer the same consumption question.

Choose EM Gen4 for the external clamps, second channel or longer history. Skip it for a three-phase installation requiring one meter across all phases, or when you expect a complete high-current switching system in this €66.90 box.
