A glowing lantern, rather than a stripe on the wall

Lucca's appeal is the light you see around the fixture. Its curved diffuser and dark horizontal bands create a small glowing lantern beside a doorway or patio. White light can make the entrance useful after dark; color can give the same corner a different mood while you eat outside. It is a more visible object than an up-and-down light whose main effect is projected onto the wall.

That appearance should decide whether you like it. If the aim is a restrained architectural wash, Lucca's bright diffuser may be too prominent. If you want the porch light itself to be part of the decoration, the banded anthracite housing has a clear purpose.

The current color version, 8721103118639, was €99.99 in stock at Philips Hue France on September 10, 2026, with free delivery in France. Its UK listing was £89.99 but temporarily out of stock. Those are country-specific offers, not a reason to assume the same availability throughout Europe.

The replaceable bulb is the best practical detail

Lucca contains a replaceable A60 E27 Hue bulb rather than a permanently integrated light source. The included color bulb is rated at 1,100 lumens at 4000K. That makes it a more versatile purchase than the earlier warm-white Lucca, but it does not establish how much light reaches every part of your porch through the diffuser.

Being able to replace the bulb is useful long after the novelty of color wears off. A failed light source need not automatically mean buying another complete wall fixture. Replacement still needs to respect the housing's fit and 9.5W maximum bulb rating; an E27 screw base alone is not enough to approve an arbitrary bulb.

If you already own an older Lucca with a sound housing, investigate an appropriate replacement bulb before replacing the entire lantern. The 2026 refresh is principally a change in the supplied lighting. A new fixture is most compelling when you also need the housing, rather than simply wanting a different shade of white.

Place it where a broad glow is welcome

The aluminium body measures roughly 215 × 170 × 115 mm. It is compact enough to consider beside a normal door, but the visible diffuser spreads light broadly. Think about nearby windows and where people sit, not just the patch of wall available for mounting. Dimming can be more useful than running the bulb at full output every evening.

This is a 220–240V mains fixture with IP44 splash protection. It needs a suitable wall position and electrical connection. Included screws and wall plugs do not make it a plug-in patio light, and the housing is not intended for immersion or pressure washing. We have not tested its long-term exposure, corrosion resistance or outdoor radio reach.

Hue's documented route uses a Bridge or Bridge Pro. In a home already using Hue, the porch can join the same scenes and routines as the indoor lights. For one new lantern, the extra hub and installation cost deserve more attention. The fixture's Matter label does not promise that every Hue scene transfers to another app, or establish a direct pairing route for the bulb supplied in this exact pack.

Spend on color only if the porch will use it

For a cheaper warm-white option in the UK, Hue Tuar was listed at £44.99 in the outlet with only a few left, before delivery below the £50 free-shipping threshold. It includes a replaceable 806-lumen E27 bulb fixed at 2700K and uses a Hue Bridge. Its silver-coloured finish is different, and the outlet price may not last, but ordinary porch lighting does not inherently require Lucca's color range.

Choose Lucca when its dark banded design and adjustable light are both wanted. Keep a working wall light if it already illuminates the entrance pleasantly. A color-capable lantern is a good way to make a used patio more enjoyable; it is a less convincing purchase for a doorway where the only requirement is finding the keyhole.
