Shelly 1PM Mini Gen3

A small module with a useful extra

The 1PM Mini Gen3 is appealing when there is room for a little relay behind a switch but not much else. Its 29 × 34 × 16 mm body includes both on/off control and a meter for the connected AC load. That means an existing switch can remain in place while you gain consumption readings and local timers.

At €14.90 for one, it costs only €1 more than the non-metering 1 Mini Gen3. The single EU offer was in stock on September 9, 2026, with VAT included and shipping extra. For ordinary mains switching where the output type is appropriate, the meter is a useful addition for very little extra money.

It still requires electrical installation. A smaller circuit board does not make this a plug-in accessory or remove the need for room around its terminals.

The 8 A limit should choose the job

This Mini is rated up to 8 A AC and needs mains power plus a neutral. It is not the right choice simply because a high-powered appliance has a socket near a convenient wall box. The connected load, its starting behavior and the installation all need to fit the relay's limits; the manual requires a qualified electrician for mains work.

The full-size 1PM Gen3 costs the same €14.90 and has a higher 16 A AC ceiling. At 37 × 42 × 16 mm, it is wider and taller but no thicker. The Mini is worth choosing when that footprint difference makes the installation practical, rather than as a cheaper version of the larger model.

The powered output is also different from the dry contacts on 1 Mini Gen3. It cannot close an unrelated low-voltage control circuit, and it offers no DC operating mode. It switches one load on or off; it does not dim a light or independently control two circuits.

Metering is more useful than another app button

Native power and energy readings let you see how much the controlled load is using. Those readings can inform a decision about schedules or unnecessary runtime, although savings depend on what you change. No measured accuracy or energy-saving result is claimed here.

Local browser controls, automatic timers and schedules remain available without Shelly Cloud. Matter support was released in stable firmware 1.6.0, so older units can be updated and enabled for it. Detailed energy displays depend on the platform; the presence of a meter does not promise the same charts in every Matter app.

Scripting and MQTT are available for more involved automation, with reduced scripting memory while Matter is enabled. For this inexpensive Mini, the simpler appeal is a small, metered switch that can keep an existing wall control useful.

Keep Gen3 unless the extra radio matters

The 1PM Mini Gen4 costs €21.90 and adds an alternative Zigbee mode. It keeps the same size and 8 A limit. Pay that €7 premium for a real Zigbee use case; for ordinary Matter switching and consumption readings, Mini Gen3 remains the better-value purchase.
