UniFi Network 11 adds Matter Thread monitoring before its gateway firmware is public

Ubiquiti's Network 11.0.83 release candidate monitors Matter-over-Thread devices, but needs UniFi OS 6.0.10 on the gateway. No UniFi gateway has a public 6.0 release yet.

Ubiquiti published UniFi Network Application 11.0.83 on October 12, 2026, with a Matter page that shows Matter-over-Thread devices inside a UniFi network. Each device is added with a Matter pairing code from the controller that already runs it, and Ubiquiti says UniFi then reports its battery level, firmware, signal strength and Thread connection beside the network's IP clients. Ubiquiti labels 11.0.83 a release candidate, and the Matter feature needs UniFi OS 6.0.10 or newer on the gateway. As of October 13, Ubiquiti has not published a UniFi OS 6.0 release for any gateway, so owners cannot turn the feature on with public firmware yet.

A view of the Thread network from the router

In Ubiquiti's Network 11 announcement, the new page detects the Thread border routers already on the network, such as an Apple TV and a HomePod, and lists each Thread network's controller, border routers, channel and device count. A channel map marks which Thread channel is in use, useful context when choosing 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi channels in the same console. Added devices appear in UniFi Topology beside Wi-Fi and wired clients, and Ubiquiti says custom alerts can cover chosen Thread devices as well as IP clients. The release-notes screenshot labels the page "Observability only."

Lights, locks and sensors therefore stay in the controller that set them up, along with their automations. UniFi becomes a place to spot an offline sensor or a weak Thread link without opening each ecosystem's app. The feature reads Thread networks run by those existing border routers; it does not depend on the Thread radio in Ubiquiti's SuperLink Gateway HA. The release notes describe it for Thread devices only and do not say whether Matter-over-Wi-Fi devices can be added the same way. Apple Home users who want a similar map without new network software already have Thread Doctor.

Every monitored device gets another controller

The pairing code is the standard Matter multi-admin route. The controller that owns a device opens a commissioning window and issues a one-time code, and a second controller uses that code to add the device to its own fabric. Every device you add therefore carries UniFi as one more Matter administrator beside the controller that set it up, and Ubiquiti has not documented whether deleting a device in UniFi also removes UniFi's fabric from it.

No public gateway firmware can run it yet

The network settings are the easy part: mDNS must be enabled, and IPv6 must be enabled on the UniFi network that hosts the Thread border routers. Homes that keep smart home gear on a separate IoT network should check that network if the Apple TV, HomePod or hub lives there.

Firmware is the blocker. Network 11.0.83 requires UniFi OS 6.0 on the console, and the Matter feature names UniFi OS 6.0.10 or newer on the gateway. Ubiquiti has released UniFi OS 6.0.11 for Cloud Keys, NVRs and NAS units, but its public release list for Cloud Gateways, Dream Machines and Dream Routers stops at UniFi OS 5.1.33 from September 9. Express 7 is on 5.2.10, and UniFi OS Server, the self-hosted replacement Ubiquiti points to, is on 5.1.42, below the UniFi OS 6.0 that Network 11 itself requires. Because the Matter requirement names the gateway, updating a Cloud Key to 6.0.11 is not enough while the gateway is below 6.0.10.

Ubiquiti's Early Access program is the channel for upcoming UniFi OS and application builds. Ubiquiti's public release list shows no UniFi OS 6.0 gateway build at any stage, so Matterhome could not confirm that switching a gateway to Early Access unlocks the Matter page today. Early Access is switched on in the UI account first, then per site in Site Manager under Settings > Updates for UniFi OS and each application.

The Network 11 upgrade also moves the application database to PostgreSQL and clears existing statistics history, ends support for the older USG gateway, drops the self-hosted Network Application Server in favor of UniFi OS Server, and migrates every site to the zone-based firewall. On a network other people rely on, those changes outweigh a monitoring page. Owners on the Official channel can prepare now by checking mDNS and IPv6 on the network that carries their Thread border routers, then wait for a public UniFi OS 6.0.10 or later gateway release. Ubiquiti has not given a date for that release, and it has not published a support article listing tested Matter devices or controllers.
