Suzi certification opens, but it is not Matter

The Connectivity Standards Alliance opened product certification for Suzi on September 2, 2026. Suzi is the sub-GHz extension of Zigbee, intended to carry low-power mesh traffic farther and through difficult walls. The opening lets manufacturers submit products for certification. It does not put a Suzi sensor, plug, or hub on a store shelf.

That distinction matters because the Alliance's launch release names no certified end product, retail coordinator, price, or shipping date. The certification program was originally planned for the first half of 2026 when the Alliance announced Zigbee 4.0 and Suzi in November 2025. September's opening is a real delivery milestone, but buyers still need exact hardware before it becomes a purchase option.

The Alliance says Suzi uses sub-GHz bands such as 800 MHz in Europe and 900 MHz in North America. It claims longer range, better wall penetration, less interference, and fewer repeaters than a conventional 2.4 GHz Zigbee deployment. Those properties could help a detached garage, garden sensor, large house, or multi-floor building where today's low-power devices struggle to reach a hub. They also make the regional radio version important. A future North American model should not be assumed to suit a European network.

Keep the logos separate

Suzi is not Matter over a new radio. It is built on the Zigbee network layer, and the Alliance describes it as an extension that can operate alongside existing 2.4 GHz Zigbee networks. The published coexistence path uses bridge or coordinator hardware carrying both radios. A current Zigbee hub does not gain sub-GHz support merely because the certification program exists.

Matter is a separate application standard. A manufacturer could eventually bridge supported Suzi accessories into Matter, just as some current hubs bridge Zigbee devices, but the Suzi announcement does not promise Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant support for any product. A Suzi logo alone will not establish that path, and Suzi does not replace the Thread border router required by a direct Matter-over-Thread accessory.

Do not plan a new smart-home purchase around Suzi yet. When hardware appears, check the exact regional frequency, the certified product identity, the required coordinator or bridge, and whether the functions you need cross into your chosen ecosystem. For an outbuilding or difficult room today, buy against a documented shipping setup rather than a newly opened certification queue.
