SONOFF Orb-MW1 (MINIR4M-E; SKU 6920075743302)

SONOFF Orb-MW1 is a low-cost finished wall switch for European and UK buyers who want direct Matter control without adding Thread hardware or hiding a relay behind the plate. Neutral wiring, an 86-style box, safe mains installation, and the absence of dimming or energy data decide whether its modest price is useful.

A smart bulb stops being smart when someone cuts its power at the wall. SONOFF Orb-MW1 can avoid that problem with Detach Relay Mode, or work as an ordinary Matter on-off switch for a conventional light. The button, relay, and direct Matter-over-Wi-Fi connection sit in one 86 x 86 mm control, but neutral wiring, wall-box fit, and a safe mains installation matter more than its roughly £17 price.

Matterhome has not tested Orb-MW1. This guide uses SONOFF's current regional storefronts, exact MINIR4M-E manual, and product-specific help page.

Start with the wall, not the app

Orb-MW1 is 34 mm deep and needs live, neutral, and switched-live conductors. SONOFF rates it for 100 to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz and a maximum 10 A resistive load. The product image shows the 86 mm face and rear mounting plate, but buyers still need to check the actual box depth, screw positions, conductor space, controlled load, and local installation rules.

The exact PDF manual says a professional electrician should install and maintain the switch. It also calls for an upstream 10 A miniature circuit breaker or residual-current breaker with integral overcurrent protection. One line in SONOFF's online help instead names ZBMINIL2-E and a 6 A device. That appears to be copied from another product, so use the exact PDF as the model-specific instruction and have the circuit checked professionally.

Do not extend the 10 A resistive figure to a fan, pump, transformer, or another inductive load without separate approval. Orb-MW1 is also an on-off switch. There is no advertised dimming or energy-monitoring path to unlock later.

Matter keeps the everyday control simple

After installation, hold the device button for five seconds and scan the Matter code from the quick guide or switch. Orb-MW1 joins through 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so it needs a compatible Matter controller and dependable Wi-Fi at the box. It does not need a SONOFF hub or Thread border router.

SONOFF provides Matter setup paths for Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, and Home Assistant. Its support table promises on-off control, voice control, and scenes, with separate voice hardware needed for Home Assistant Voice. That is enough for a light to respond from an app, room routine, or assistant, but it is not a promise that every SONOFF setting moves into every Matter platform.

The eWeLink app owns the deeper product behavior: schedules, timers, logs, power-on state, local LAN controls, notifications, and Detach Relay Mode. Detach Relay Mode is the unusual reason to consider this switch for smart bulbs. It can keep the relay powered while the physical button becomes a SONOFF scene trigger, then restore direct switching if the device goes offline. Plan that as a vendor feature, not a portable Matter control.

Choose it when one switch should be the whole retrofit

SONOFF's exact UK Shopify record identifies SKU 6920075743302, variant 46794099294449, and an available purchase state. The current standard price is £17.23 in the UK and €19.28 on the French storefront before shipping or temporary discounts. That is inexpensive for a finished switch, especially when no separate hub, Thread border router, or hidden module is required.

The Aqara Light Switch H2 EU is the closer finished-control alternative when Matter over Thread or Aqara's dual-protocol path fits the home better. Choose the Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 EU when brightness control is the real job. SONOFF's MINIR4M keeps an existing faceplate and supports more external switch types, but it asks the box to hold a separate relay.

Buy Orb-MW1 for one known 86 mm, neutral-equipped circuit where basic Matter switching is enough. Have it installed, then verify physical control, Matter state changes, Wi-Fi recovery, and any eWeLink-only behavior before ordering a row of matching switches.

Best for

  • Replacing one compatible European or UK wall switch with a finished Matter control
  • Rooms where basic on-off control matters more than dimming or energy data
  • Mixed-platform homes that want direct Wi-Fi Matter without a brand hub
  • Smart-bulb rooms that can benefit from SONOFF's Detach Relay Mode

Skip if

  • The switch box lacks neutral wiring, enough depth, reliable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, or a compatible 86-style mounting pattern
  • The circuit needs dimming, energy monitoring, or an unverified motor or inductive-load rating
  • You need SONOFF schedules, logs, or Detach Relay Mode to work without eWeLink
  • A qualified installer cannot confirm the device and wiring method are accepted locally
