tink Basics Matter Smart Plug is a cheap, direct Matter switch for European lamps and simple appliances. Its 16 A rating and hub-free Wi-Fi path are useful, but buyers who want energy data, Thread routing, or a documented firmware workflow should spend more.

A floor lamp or holiday decoration does not always justify a premium smart plug. Sometimes the whole job is to switch mains power from an app or routine. tink Basics Matter Smart Plug does that over Wi-Fi for €13.99 at the time of this check, with no tink hub and no Thread border router.

That low price comes with a sharp boundary: this is an on-off plug, not a power meter. It is worth considering when the appliance only needs a schedule, voice command, or simple automation. It is the wrong shortcut when energy readings are part of the reason for making the outlet smart.

The cheap price buys one job

The German store identifies the single plug as SKU T20001 and EAN 0740813074293. It lists a maximum connection rating of 16 A and 3680 W, a physical size of 63 by 63 by 90 mm, and a Matter code in the box. The Connectivity Standards Alliance lists the tink Basics Smart Plug as an end product using Wi-Fi transport.

tink names Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and SmartThings on the product page. The company's own comparison also puts a dash in the energy-monitoring column, which is the most important distinction from plugs such as Tapo P110M Europe. Matter can make switching portable across platforms. It cannot create a meter that the hardware does not advertise.

The 16 A figure is a ceiling, not blanket approval for every appliance. Motors, compressors, heaters, and devices that behave badly after a hard power cut need their own load and safety check. For an ordinary lamp, fan, or seasonal decoration, the decision is simpler. Confirm that cutting power is appropriate, then keep the plug below its documented limit.

Wi-Fi replaces Thread infrastructure

T20001 uses Matter over Wi-Fi, so it needs a Matter controller in the chosen ecosystem but not a Thread border router. It also does not become a Thread router for nearby sensors. That makes it a sensible fit in a home with dependable Wi-Fi and no reason to pay for Thread infrastructure at this outlet.

tink promotes direct setup in the user's existing smart home app instead of a proprietary tink app. Its product FAQ also mentions Smart Life as an optional control route. What the current materials do not explain is how firmware reaches the plug or which settings depend on that optional app. Matterhome has not tested commissioning, updates, power-cut recovery, or multi-admin sharing, so test those behaviors on one unit before standardizing on it.

Home Assistant is another verify-first case. tink does not list it for this exact product. A Home Assistant buyer should confirm the current Matter server path and exposed entities rather than treating general protocol support as product-specific proof.

Buy one before a multipack

The strongest argument for this plug is cost. It gives a lamp or similarly simple load direct Matter switching without adding a brand bridge. The missing meter and undocumented update path are easier to accept on one inexpensive plug than across a house full of them.

Tapo P110M Europe is the closer alternative when energy monitoring matters and Wi-Fi is acceptable. Eve Energy Europe adds metering and can act as a powered Thread router, but it needs Thread infrastructure and costs more. Shelly Plug S MTR Gen3 is the better comparison when detailed manufacturer documentation and plug-level features matter more than the lowest purchase price.

Start with T20001 when the outlet needs one uncomplicated on-off job. If the first unit commissions cleanly, recovers predictably after a power cut, and stays connected in the final room, then the multipack becomes a reasonable way to save money. If any of those checks matter enough that uncertainty is unacceptable, buy the better-documented plug first.
