Physical controls are the point
BILRESA is not a sensor or a light. It is the physical control layer for IKEA's Matter lineup. IKEA sells dual-button and scroll-wheel versions, plus kits with multiple remotes, so the right choice depends on the room and the action you want.
This is the kind of device where "Matter compatible" is true but not enough. Button behavior, long presses, dimming, and scene assignment can differ more than simple bulb or plug control.
Setup path
BILRESA uses Matter over Thread, so it needs a Thread border router. DIRIGERA is the most IKEA-native route, especially when the remote is meant to control KAJPLATS bulbs, GRILLPLATS plugs, or VARMBLIXT lamps in the IKEA Home smart app.
Direct Matter pairing can also make sense if your main ecosystem handles button devices well. Start with one remote and test the exact actions you need before putting remotes in every room.
Where it fits
Use BILRESA beside a bed, by a sofa, at a kitchen counter, or near a closet where a physical control beats an app. The dual-button remote is better for simple on/off or scene toggles. The scroll-wheel version makes more sense for dimming or a light-focused room.
If you only want automation, a motion or contact sensor may be a better fit. If you only want voice control, the remote may be unnecessary.
Should you buy it?
Buy BILRESA for a specific room-level control job. Skip it if your main requirement is full cross-platform scene portability, because remotes and buttons remain one of the messier parts of Matter compatibility.
Best for
- IKEA light and plug setups that need physical control
- Bedside, hallway, and kitchen controls where a phone is awkward
- Buyers using DIRIGERA or an ecosystem with solid Matter button support
Skip if
- You expect identical button mapping in every Matter ecosystem
- You do not have a Thread border router
- A simple wall switch or app automation already solves the control problem
