TCL's palm-vein lock adds Thread, but no ship date

On August 21, 2026, Gizmodo reported that TCL had released a $200 Matter-over-Thread version of its D2 Pro palm-vein smart lock. TCL's own storefront is less conclusive. As of August 24, its dedicated D2 Pro Matter page ends with a coming-soon notice and an early-access signup instead of a price or buy button. This is a certified product preview, not a lock readers can order from TCL today.

TCL also sells another D2 Pro without Matter under an almost identical name. Buyers looking for the cross-platform model should verify that a future listing names the D2 Pro-M or explicitly says Matter over Thread. A plain D2 Pro listing that mentions Alexa and Google Assistant is not enough.

Thread is the Matter path

The Connectivity Standards Alliance certified the D2 Pro-M on March 2, 2026. Its record names Matter 1.4, Thread and Bluetooth, with the door-lock device type. TCL separately says the Matter version connects with Apple Home, Google Assistant and Alexa. A compatible Matter controller and Thread border router will therefore be part of the setup. The product's separate Wi-Fi radio does not change that requirement.

Wi-Fi serves TCL's own feature path. The company advertises it for remote control and notifications in the TCL Home app, says all data stays on the device, and offers a local mode that disables Wi-Fi. The storefront page does not explain which palm-vein enrollment, access-code management, arrival unlock or activity features remain exclusive to the TCL app after Matter setup.

The hardware pitch otherwise resembles the current D2 Pro: contactless palm-vein recognition, a keypad, physical key backup, a rechargeable 10,000 mAh battery and local biometric storage. Those are TCL's product claims, not Matter features, and Matterhome has not tested them on the new variant.

Wait for the exact retail listing

The independent report's $200 price is useful context, but TCL does not currently confirm that figure on the product page. It also gives no order date, shipping region or final retail SKU. The official page offers country selection beyond the United States, yet that is not evidence that the lock will launch in every listed market at the same time.

This remains news-only in Matterhome's database until TCL opens sales and documents the shipping model's setup path. Before buying, check for the D2 Pro-M identity, an active checkout, the local door-fit requirements, and the Thread border router already serving the ecosystem where the lock will live.
