# SwitchBot's new outdoor camera is not the Matter option

SwitchBot's Outdoor Pan/Tilt Cam 3K adds AI summaries and RTSP support, but Matter buyers should treat it as a SwitchBot and Home Assistant camera, not a cross-platform Matter camera.

SwitchBot has launched the Outdoor Pan/Tilt Cam 3K, and the smart-home detail to notice is what is missing. T3 reported on July 2, 2026, that the new outdoor camera costs $79.99 in the U.S. and 89.99 pounds in the U.K., with AI event summaries, natural-language clip search, pan-and-tilt coverage, motion tracking, weather resistance, and RTSP support. SwitchBot's own U.K. product page lists the camera as in stock, but the public product page and SwitchBot's Matter support page do not present it as a Matter camera.

That makes this a different kind of SwitchBot launch from the RGBICWW Ceiling Light covered earlier this month. The ceiling light is a direct Matter-over-Wi-Fi fixture. The Outdoor Pan/Tilt Cam 3K is better read as a SwitchBot security camera with some local-video flexibility, not as a camera that should appear natively in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant through Matter.

## Buy it for video, not the logo

The camera pitch is straightforward: wider outdoor coverage and smarter review tools at a low price. T3 says it can rotate 360 degrees horizontally and 90 degrees vertically, has a 110 degree wide-angle lens, tracks motion, carries an IP66 weather-resistance rating, and can operate down to minus 20 degrees Celsius. The more interesting feature for a busy household is the AI summary layer, which is supposed to describe what happened instead of only showing a motion alert.

Those features may be useful, but they live in SwitchBot's camera path. If the buyer's real goal is to see a live outdoor camera feed inside a preferred Matter platform, this is the wrong product to assume will get them there. Matter camera support is still early across the industry, and SwitchBot's current Matter page focuses on hubs, bridged Bluetooth devices, several Wi-Fi product categories, lighting, plugs, locks, appliances, sensors, and robot vacuums. It does not list the Outdoor Pan/Tilt Cam 3K in the Matter support table.

Matterhome is not adding a device guide for the Outdoor Pan/Tilt Cam 3K yet for that reason. A non-Matter camera can still be a good camera, but it should not sit in a Matter compatibility database unless the public setup path is clear.

## RTSP is the practical integration hook

The useful integration detail is RTSP. T3 says the camera supports RTSP for Home Assistant, NVR, and NAS setups. That is a better signal for local-video buyers than a broad smart-home compatibility claim. If you already run Home Assistant or a recorder and you are comfortable managing camera streams, this camera may be interesting as a low-cost outdoor pan-and-tilt option.

If you want a camera that proves out Matter camera behavior, compare a product that is actually being sold that way, such as Aqara's Camera Hub G350. Even there, the buyer should be cautious. Matterhome's [G350 guide](/devices/aqara-camera-hub-g350) treats it as an early Matter camera where platform support remains uneven, not as a finished answer for every ecosystem.

The purchase filter is simple. Buy the SwitchBot Outdoor Pan/Tilt Cam 3K if the SwitchBot app, AI summaries, outdoor coverage, and RTSP stream solve the job. Skip it if the main requirement is Matter camera control in the home app you already use.
